Job Title: Mechanic

Department: Garage Department

Reports To: Chief Mechanic

Direct Reports: Garage Helper

Duty station: Kigali, Rwanda

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing Petrocom's vehicles to ensure they remain in good condition and usable for as long as possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Vehicle Inspection and Diagnosis:
   • Inspect vehicle engines and mechanical/electrical components, to diagnose issues accurately.
   • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify problems.
2. Repair and Maintenance:
   • Conduct routine maintenance work, such as fluid replacement, part lubrication, and system checks.
   • Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues.
3. Customer Interaction and Advisory:
   • Schedule future maintenance sessions and advise motorists on good vehicle use.
   • Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for repair or maintenance jobs.
4. Documentation and Tool Maintenance:
   • Keep logs on work performed and issues found, with detailed reports.
   • Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

Educational Qualifications:

• High school diploma in auto mechanics plus certification from a vocational school or completion of an apprenticeship.
• Specialized training or certification for Man, Mercedes-Benz & SHACMAN brands is an advantage.
• Valid Driving License.

Working Experience:

• At least 5 year of relevant working experience as a mechanic.
• Excellent knowledge of mechanical, and electronic components.
• Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods.
• Ability to handle various tools (e.g., pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g., lift).
• Excellent physical condition.
