Job Description/Requirements
Location : Kampala
Lesson Planning and Instruction:
- Develop and deliver well-structured math lessons in line with the school’s curriculum and educational standards.
- Use a variety of teaching methods and resources (including hands-on activities, games, and digital tools) to make learning math engaging and interactive.
- Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of students with varying abilities and learning styles.
Assessment and Feedback:
- Regularly assess student progress through quizzes, tests, homework, and class participation.
- Provide constructive feedback to students on their work, guiding them on areas for improvement and celebrating their achievements.
- Track individual and class performance, identifying students who may need additional support or enrichment.
Classroom Management:
- Maintain a positive, disciplined, and respectful classroom environment that promotes active learning and student engagement.
- Set clear expectations for behavior and academic achievement and manage student behavior effectively.
- Create a supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
Student Support:
- Offer one-on-one or small group support to students who need additional help with math concepts.
- Encourage a growth mindset by helping students develop confidence in their mathematical abilities.
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate students with special needs or different learning abilities.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other teachers, staff, and the school leadership to share resources and strategies for improving student outcomes.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress, achievements, and areas needing improvement.
- Participate in parent-teacher meetings and school events, as necessary.
Curriculum and Professional Development:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest educational practices and teaching strategies in mathematics.
- Contribute to the development and review of the math curriculum.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
- Assist with the preparation and marking of standardized tests or other school assessments.
- Ensure that classroom materials and resources are well-organized and available for use.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: A degree or Diploma in Primary Education or a related subject (e.g., Mathematics, Education).
- Experience: Previous teaching experience, especially in a primary school setting,
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of primary school mathematics curriculum and teaching methods.
- Ability to explain mathematical concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Proficiency in using digital tools and resources to enhance learning.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
Personal Qualities:
- Passion for teaching and fostering a love of mathematics.
- Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with young children.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and students.
