Job Description/Requirements

Location : Kampala

Lesson Planning and Instruction:

  • Develop and deliver well-structured math lessons in line with the school’s curriculum and educational standards.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and resources (including hands-on activities, games, and digital tools) to make learning math engaging and interactive.
  • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of students with varying abilities and learning styles.

Assessment and Feedback:

  • Regularly assess student progress through quizzes, tests, homework, and class participation.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students on their work, guiding them on areas for improvement and celebrating their achievements.
  • Track individual and class performance, identifying students who may need additional support or enrichment.

Classroom Management:

  • Maintain a positive, disciplined, and respectful classroom environment that promotes active learning and student engagement.
  • Set clear expectations for behavior and academic achievement and manage student behavior effectively.
  • Create a supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.

Student Support:

  • Offer one-on-one or small group support to students who need additional help with math concepts.
  • Encourage a growth mindset by helping students develop confidence in their mathematical abilities.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate students with special needs or different learning abilities.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with other teachers, staff, and the school leadership to share resources and strategies for improving student outcomes.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress, achievements, and areas needing improvement.
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings and school events, as necessary.

Curriculum and Professional Development:

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest educational practices and teaching strategies in mathematics.
  • Contribute to the development and review of the math curriculum.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and training sessions.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
  • Assist with the preparation and marking of standardized tests or other school assessments.
  • Ensure that classroom materials and resources are well-organized and available for use.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: A degree or Diploma in Primary Education or a related subject (e.g., Mathematics, Education).
  • Experience: Previous teaching experience, especially in a primary school setting,
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of primary school mathematics curriculum and teaching methods.
  • Ability to explain mathematical concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and resources to enhance learning.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.

Personal Qualities:

  • Passion for teaching and fostering a love of mathematics.
  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with young children.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and students.
