The International Trade Centre (ITC) a multilateral agency with a joint mandate with the World Trade Organization and the United Nations through the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. We provide country-and client-specific tailored support through unique advisory services, capacity building, training and mentoring, free tools and business data, and trade-specific publications.

 

Job Summary: Under the ITC SheTrades Initiative framework, ITC seeks a home-based consultant in Uganda to deliver these trainings. Responsibilities include preparing outreach materials, supporting mobilization, adapting training content to match the country context and participants’ needs, and delivering both online and on-site workshops. The consultant will also oversee the Training of Trainers (ToT) aimed to enhance the training capabilities of representatives of business support organizations and women’s business associations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Consultant will work under the direct supervision of the SheTrades Programme Officer (Projects) and will closely work with the lead of the SheTrades market-related soft skills training programme to undertake the following duties:

Participation in the Training of Trainer’s (ToT) The objective of the ToT is to equip the consultant with the knowledge and skills to effectively train women entrepreneurs on the Communicating About My Business module. The ToT will cover:

  • How to plan and design needs-based training, including preparation of sessions and selection of activities that support different stages of adult learning.
  • Key approaches for delivering and facilitating the Communicating About My Business module.
  • Techniques for monitoring and evaluating training delivery.

Delivery of trainings The consultant will be responsible for independently delivering trainings, reaching a total of 50 women entrepreneurs (25 participants per session). Development and Adaptation of Training Materials

  • Contextualize existing ITC SheTrades training materials (PowerPoint presentations, participant workbooks, exercises, and tools) to reflect the challenges and realities of women entrepreneurs in Uganda.
  • Oversee translation of materials into local languages, if needed.
  • Ensure all adaptations maintain the core learning objectives and gender-responsive approach.

Mobilisation and Facilitation of Trainings

  • Lead the organization and facilitation of the workshops, including:
  • Collecting quotations and liaising with venue providers to secure appropriate training locations.
  • Ensuring logistical arrangements are in place for seamless delivery.
  • Identify, invite, and mobilize participants, ensuring inclusive representation across sectors and demographics.
  • Facilitate the training sessions using the adapted materials, ensuring delivery is interactive and learner-centred.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Tailor and administer ITC SheTrades pre- and post-assessment tools to capture learning outcomes.
  • Monitor training progress and collect feedback from participants.

Prepare a final training report using the ITC reporting template, including: 

  • Summary of training outcomes and participant feedback.
  • Challenges encountered and success stories (e.g., observable behaviour change).
  • Recommendations, risks, and lessons learned for future rollouts. The consultant is obliged to provide full access to ITC external and internal auditors to documents and information. In addition, the consultant shall comply with any audit undertaken in line with the financial regulations and rules of the United Nations. Copyright Clause: The consultant has to ensure that she has obtained the necessary permissions with regard to intellectual property rights required to perform her services under this consultancy contract and for the subsequent dissemination by ITC in any form. Documentary proof is to be submitted to ITC. Should any license fee be due for the use of copyrighted materials of third parties, the consultant shall request the prior written permission from ITC. Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in any field
    • Preferably educational background in: Culture and creative industries, Education, Business, or Communication, Gender studies, Psychology, International development, Trade.
    • Extensive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the university degree.
    • Minimum experience of 3 years in training and coaching on topics such as: leadership, emotional intelligence, business fields such sales, negotiation or a related field.
    • Previous background in training, mentoring and coaching adults, especially women.
    • Experience in applying adult learning principles and participatory workshop facilitation and coaching.
    • Previous work on gender-inclusive initiatives.
    • Experience working in trade and business-related contexts, preferably in agricultural value chains is a plus.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in working on trade and gender.
  • Employed or has strong engagement in women’s chamber of commerce or other Women Business Association with strong networking skills and outreach capacity.

Skills:

  • Good communication marketing, and outreach skills.
  • Diplomatic skills and can handle sensitive topics and discussions.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills – both written and oral.
  • Being adaptable, and culturally sensitive to maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. This will be essential to work with different groups and tailor training materials.
  • Attention to detail under time pressure.
  • Ability to work reliably and independently with minimum supervision.
  • Previous experience in producing communications materials on trade and development issues is desirable.

Languages Fluency in English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of other local or national languages is an asset.
