Human Capital Business Solutions Ltd is a Boutique HR Advisory Firm that specializes in strategic HR Consulting, Talent Acquisition & Development, Risk Management and Business Process Outsourced Services with our Headquarters based in Uganda and Country Office in Tanzania.

On behalf of Our client in the manufacturing sector we are looking for competent and experienced Maintenance Engineer to be based in Kampala.

Reports To: Operations Manager

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda.

Job Summary: The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for provision of an effective and responsive maintenance service to production and other sections of the Company by preparing, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring maintenance works within the operations of the company.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the achievement of production targets by ensuring that all maintenance work necessary to maintain all plant and equipment at the levels of availability, reliability and capacity required is promptly actioned and fully completed within the time frames required, to the best industry practice.
  • Carry out mechanical inspections, check, tests and procedures as specified in preventive maintenance routines.
  • Contribute to the reduction of maintenance costs by ensuring all routine and preventative maintenance tasks are fully completed as scheduled, all maintenance tasks are correctly actioned the first time to eliminate re-work and by identifying and highlighting the supervisors high-cost maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment is maintained to the standards required for specific equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and recommendations as well as documented repair and maintenance procedures.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement process by participating in reviews, identifying recurring problems and suggesting improvements.
  • Responsible for reporting all spillages or potential or actual identified contaminated sites to the environmental department.
  • Inspect the quality of parts and materials issued from the Stores and ensure they meet the required standard(s) and are suitable and appropriate prior to installation.
    • Ensure the removal of all un-used materials, generated debris, off cuts; removed, used up or damaged parts; used cleaning rags and all rubbish, from all working areas during and after Mechanical work to ensure the job site is clean.
    • Ensure all tools, equipment and plant used in any Mechanical operation are audited, cleaned and returned to the areas designated for their storage or stowage, as soon as they have been used and are not required on the job site any more.
    • Ensure that all works/projects are completed quickly, safely, and according to specifications that have been agreed on the project.
    • Inspection of work performed by mechanical fitters, welders, plumber and machinists to ensure high quality of completed work.
    • To directly supervise the Mechanical Fitters/Artisans and Electrical team to safely and effectively execute all the scheduled and un-scheduled Mechanical work required to maintain all plant and Equipment at the levels of availability, reliability and capacity necessary to achieve production goals.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Diploma/Degree Mechanical Engineering.
  • Diploma/Degree Project Management is an added advantage.
  • General work experience of minimum of 8 years
  • Minimum of 5 years with hands on experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the Manufacturing industry
  • Possess a broad understanding of the major design engineering disciplines
  • Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office, Autodesk AutoCAD, ERP (SAP)
  • Knowledge of Roll forming operations.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written to staff.
  • Good business acumen and must be able to establish credibility, trust, and partnership at all levels of the organization.
  • High energy, enthusiasm and commitment towards the mission, goals and values of the company and department.
  • Preparing clear, concise and complete reports and other written material, making clear oral presentations.
  • Analyzing complex technical problems, evaluating alternatives and making sound independent judgements within established guidelines.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of mechanic, electric, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance.
  • Experience in maintenance of EOT Cranes, compressors, generators and Roll formers is an added advantage.
  • Strong communication, planning and organizational skills,
  • Having strong leadership skills, pro-active, result-oriented, Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple activities,
  • Good knowledge at MS Office applications, preferably ERP system capability,
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9000, ISO 14001 etc.)
