The Company is affiliated to the MOVIT Group of Companies. SPS deals in the production of different shapes of plastic containers including jars, caps, bottles, buckets and jerricans among others. These are supplied mainly to MOVIT Products Limited as packaging materials for different types of cosmetics products.

Job Title:Maintenance Controller

Job Purpose: A Maintenance Controller is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the maintenance operations of all production machinery and equipment. The core objective is to ensure equipment runs at maximum efficiency to minimize downtime, reduce costs, and maintain production output. One is required to have hands-on strong technical expertise in hydraulic, pneumatic, hot runner moulding process and electrical systems common in plastic manufacturing

Functional Outputs/Activities per key performance area:
Leadership and performance management
· Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to manage a team and coordinate with other departments
· Leverage leadership and technical knowledge to support Lead, train, and develop a team of maintenance technicians and mechanics continuous improvement program.
· Guide the prioritization and elimination of repeat failures by setting a road map to drive Asset care-based practices, hence improving productivity.
· Provide technical assistance and guidance to maintenance personnel, machine operators, and other staff
· Develop and monitor sectional KPI’s to support achieve organizational strategic goals
· Develop working relationships with cross-functional teams to ensure breadth and depth of the teams’ knowledge in the areas of Asset Care.
· Delegate tasks and manage the day-to-day work allocation for the maintenance team
· Build skills and improve flexibility and continuity among technicians by maintaining a subordinate development program.
Maintenance Planning and Management
· Utilize and maintain CMMS for tracking work orders, maintenance history, and spare parts
· Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to quickly diagnose complex issues under pressure
· Develop, implement, and supervise daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance (PM) schedules for all plant and machinery.
· Monitor metrics like work order completion rates and the time it takes to complete tasks to drive productivity and improve efficiency.
· Coordinate maintenance activities with production schedules to minimize disruption and maximize planned downtime for inspections and major repairs.
Troubleshooting and Repair
· Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing issues, and coordinating quick repairs to minimize production downtime.
· Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues affecting machinery.
· Perform hands-on repairs as needed, including replacing parts, adjusting machine settings, and addressing electrical faults.
· Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Experience with PLCs and robotics.
Inventory and Cost Control
· Ensure Effective inventory by preventing stockouts of critical parts, which can cause production delays.
· Design quick changeover technology at the site to drive safety, productivity, improvement of assets lifetime, asset utilization and reliability
· Monitor and control annual maintenance budgets for repairs and spare parts.
· Collaborate with procurement to ensure critical parts are available when needed by participating in monthly stock take.
Continuous Improvement
· Spearhead Problem solving to analyze equipment failure data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
· Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance production methods, equipment performance, and quality.
· Stay updated on new technologies and techniques in plastic manufacturing to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
· Shall be a permanent member of the CIP committee
Performance management
· Proper resource allocation and efficiently coordinate teams by ensuring the right people, with the right skills, are assigned to the right tasks.
· Conduct monthly 1on1, coaching and focused training for technicians.
· Develop and monitor section KPIs performance MTTR, Availability Losses, MTBF, Maintenace backlog
· Drive continuous improvement through JDI and CI innovation projects
· Shift the focus from expensive, unplanned repairs toward more cost-effective planned and predictive maintenance strategies.
· Promote use of Eagle way performance management system (EPMS) to track individual performance and improvement initiatives.
Compliance and Safety
· Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed safely and in compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
· Maintain updated Asset and Risk registers and participate in closure of mitigants
· Enforce safety protocols, including LOTOTO procedures, and correct any unsafe work practices.
· Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation in accordance with Ministry of Genda Labor and Safety regulatory standards of Uganda.
Financial Management
· Monitor and ensure optimal utilization and accountability of allocated resource to provide economic value to support business growth
Risk Management
· Identify the department’s risks, their various mitigations and keep track of them.
Compliance
· Ensure regulatory Compliance regarding pressurized Equipment annual testing and certification.
· Adherence to all SPS and In Country Policies and Procedures.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Related Minimum Experience:
· Hold a bachelor’s degree in: Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical engineering, or any other related science discipline from a recognized institution.
· Awareness in occupational health & safety
Minimum 3 years relevant experience in FMCG Industry preferably in a maintenance leadership role. Specific experience in plastic manufacturing or injection moulding shall be highly preferred.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
