Job Summary: The Loans Officer will identify prospective clients, explain loan products, and guide applicants through the loan origination process. You will assess loan applications, conduct credit and affordability checks, prepare files for underwriting, and manage a portfolio of clients while ensuring excellent customer service throughout the loan lifecycle.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- responsible financial solutions to individuals and businesses.
- Identify and engage prospective clients.
- Explain loan products and guide clients through the application process.
- Assess loan applications and conduct credit & affordability checks.
- Collect and verify documentation; prepare loan files for underwriting and approval.
- Manage client portfolio and monitor loan performance.
- Follow up on repayments and provide responsive customer service.
- Ensure compliance with policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management standards.
- Collaborate with finance and underwriting teams.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Professional experience in Loans Officer or similar credit-related roles, with a clear understanding of lending processes and credit cycles.
- Solid knowledge of Finance principles, financial analysis, and basic accounting to support informed lending decisions.
- Competence in loan assessment, including Underwriting support such as evaluating creditworthiness, risk, and repayment capacity.
- Hands-on experience in Loan Origination, from prospecting and application collection to documentation and file preparation.
- Strong Customer Service skills, including active listening, clear communication, and the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
- Relevant academic background, such as a diploma or degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- Proficiency with computer applications and loan management systems; strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
- Ability to work ethically under pressure, meet targets, and comply with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with the local financial market and lending environment in Uganda is an added advantage.
