Job Title: Lecturer-Obstetrics and Gynaecology (1 Post)
Age Limit: Not more than 50 years
Salary Scale: M6.1
Report to: Head of Department

Purpose of the Job
To support the implementation of students’ academic and research programmes of the University and participate in clinical practice.

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
(i) Teaching duties and responsibilities
o Prepare learning materials and deliver lectures to the undergraduate and post graduate students.
o Participate in the review and development of the university curriculum.
o Participate in the development of manuals and kits for the conduct, supervision, and evaluation of practical assignments to students.
o Examine, assess and mark students’ assignments and examinations.
o Undertake research to support the development of the University academic research proposal.
o Supervise students’ academic research and internship training programmes and activities.
o Participate in the organization and implementation of University academic conferences, seminars and workshops.
o Provide technical support and support supervision to Teaching Assistants and other junior staff.
o Participate in the review, development and implementation of the University Curriculum.

(ii) Clinical duties and responsibilities
o Participate and ensure efficient management of clinical services in his/her specialty at the Hospital.
o Supervise and train Teaching Assistants, other Health Professionals and Interns under him/her.
o Plan, co-ordinate and participate in training programs for all Health professionals under him/her.

o Plan and participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in his/her specialty, for Health Professionals at the Hospital.
o Participate in the management of referral system for patients.
o Ensure that discipline and the ethical code of conduct are observed by the staff under him/her.
o Provide technical and professional advice in his/her area of specialty to Lira University.
o Advice on the procurement of equipment, drugs and other logistics required for his/her specialty.
o Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the higher authorities.

(b) Person Specifications
o PhD or Master of Medicine degree (Obstetrics & Gynecology) or its equivalent from a recognized University or Institution.
o MBchB degree or its equivalent from a recognized University or Institution.
o Applicants must be registered and licensed with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council.
o Applicants should have clinical and teaching experience of not less than (3) years at specialist level.
o At least one publication in peer-reviewed journal
o Applicants should show demonstrable qualities of leadership and integrity.
