JOB DETAILS:
Laboratory Technologist – Full Time
MAIN CAMPUS • Allan Galpin Health Center
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Must have a Bachelor of Science degree from a recognized Accredited Institution of Higher Learning in at least one of the following; Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Sciences of BSc with extra training in Laboratory methods.
2. At least two (2) years’ work experience in a Laboratory of an academic institution.
3. Must have fully certified/licensed to use standard medical equipment.
4. Must have good computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Internet).
5. Good attention to small details and strong perception skills.
6. Must be a person of high integrity with an excellent work ethic.
7. Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and be available to work after normal working hours.
8. Must be a mature and committed Christian.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Carry out a wide range of laboratory investigation and present results to clinicians.
2. Keep reagents at required temperature, properly dispose of any expired reagents, and inform the supervisor of the expired reagents.
3. Establish laboratory chemical needs, requisition and monitor proper use of laboratory supplies to ensure value for money.
4. Follow established National Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in ensuring that safety measures are strictly followed and ensure safe disposal of laboratory waste.
5. Ensure that laboratory equipment is occasionally serviced by calibrating and repairing them to avoid errors.
6. Adhere to the laboratory code of conduct (keep confidentiality).
7. Promote good Laboratory practice, including quality control measures.
8. Maintain the general cleanliness of the Laboratory.
9. Any other official duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
