Job Summary
The Laboratory Systems Coordinator will provide technical assistance (TA) in strengthening laboratory capacity for improved production, analysis, and use of AMR surveillance. He/She will enhance microbiology/AMR laboratory network optimization including laboratory quality management systems (LQMS), infrastructure improvements, Biosafety biosecurity (BSBS), Specimen /isolate transport /referral/management, equipment and supply chain management. He/She will support the implementation of a robust diagnostic stewardship program and provide expertise in generating information products, including AMR surveillance reports and articles/publications.

Overall Responsibilities
• Lead the development of needs assessment tools for the AMR national systems and microbiology/AMR laboratory across sectors (human, animal, and environmental health).

• Lead the development and operationalization of procurement plans for laboratory reagents, consumables, and equipment service maintenance.
• Provide TA for the development/review, implementation and monitoring of AMR surveillance plans at national and health facility levels.

• Build lab capacity including technical capacity (isolation, identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing), quality assurance, specimen/isolate management/ transport/referral, equipment and supply chain management, and data management for effective AMR surveillance through training, mentorship and supportive supervision.
• Support and monitor the implementation of laboratory quality management systems and biosafety biosecurity standards across the microbiology/AMR surveillance network
• Support regional laboratory teams to develop/update local antibiograms to support antimicrobial stewardship
• Promote and support innovative practices to enhance the clinic-laboratory interface
• Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, and advocate for coordinated and harmonized laboratory systems strengthening
• Contribute to the development of annual, quarterly, and monthly work plans and periodic reports.
• Support the adoption of quality improvement approaches to support enhancements in microbiology/AMR surveillance capacity
• Document and share learning and best practices.

Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies:
• A bachelor’s degree in biomedical laboratory technology or other relevant field from a recognized university.
• A master’s degree in public health (complete/near completion) or other relevant field is an added advantage.
• Registration with Allied Health Professionals Council.
• Minimum seven years of relevant technical experience, at least three of which should have been in a coordination role.
