Job Summary: Under the supervision and guidance of the laboratory technician, the Laboratory Assistant will coordinate and carry out tasks in various areas of the clinical laboratory. Each day, specific responsibilities within the job scope will be assigned to a designated Laboratory Assistant. Based on these responsibilities, the Laboratory Assistant will monitor task progress, prioritize activities, and coordinate their execution. They will also provide regular, direct updates to the laboratory technician regarding task completion.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up necessary equipment and materials for investigations.
- Conduct investigations, routine tests, experiments, and procedures with minimal supervision.
- Collect and process samples for analysis.
- Record, analyze, and document data, maintaining accurate records.
- Maintain laboratory supplies, including ordering and stocking.
- Clean and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Participate in quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and precision.
- Follow laboratory safety guidelines, regulations, and procedures.
- Prepare reports and presentations.
- Assist in training new staff members.
- Participate in audits and inspections within the facility and with external entities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Must have certificate in medical Laboratory technique from recognized institutions.
- Fully registered with Allied Health profession councils and Valid Practicing licenses.
- Possess 2 years of practicum experience in a Laboratory in a busy center.
- Have basic knowledge of Laboratory procedures and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Quality environmental sanitation.
- Plans allocation of staff, funds and facilities to deliver on expected outputs.
- Able to define and attain targets within set timeframes.
- Able to appreciate and support change initiatives.
- Enforcement of procedures that promote quality and standard health service delivery.
- Communicates effectively by giving clear, concise and accurate information.
- Results oriented with ability to assist the unit achieve its overall objectives.
