Human Capital Business Solutions Ltd is a Boutique HR Advisory Firm that specializes in strategic HR Consulting, Talent Acquisition & Development, Risk Management and Business Process Outsourced Services with our Headquarters based in Uganda and Country Office in Tanzania.
On behalf of our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for a competent and experienced IT Officer to be based in Jinja, Uganda.
Job Summary: This role involves overseeing the organization’s technology infrastructure and ensuring the smooth operation of all IT systems. The role also involves managing hardware and software installations, providing technical support to staff, ensuring network security, troubleshooting issues, and implementing upgrades. The IT Officer will play a key role in maintaining data integrity, supporting digital tools for various departments, and recommending new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
System Management and Maintenance
• Install, configure, and maintain hardware, software, and networking systems.
• Ensure regular updates and patches are applied to systems and applications.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues promptly.
Technical Support
• Provide technical support to staff, both remotely and on-site, for hardware and software issues.
• Respond to service requests and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Network Administration
• Manage and maintain the organization’s network infrastructure (e.g., LAN, WAN, VPN).
• Ensure network security by implementing firewalls, antivirus software, and other security measures.
• Monitor network traffic and performance to prevent disruptions.
Data Management and Security
• Backup critical data regularly and ensure the integrity of data storage systems.
• Implement and maintain data security protocols to safeguard sensitive information.
• Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
System Upgrades and Improvements
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve business operations.
• Plan and oversee software and hardware upgrades to enhance performance and functionality.
Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain accurate records of IT systems, equipment, and software licenses.
• Prepare regular reports on system performance, security issues, and IT incidents.
• Document troubleshooting procedures and resolutions.
Training and Awareness
• Provide training to staff on the use of software, systems, and security best practices.
• Raise awareness of IT policies and procedures across the organization.
Collaboration with Other Departments
• Work with various departments to understand their technology needs and provide appropriate solutions.
• Collaborate with external vendors for technical support, system installations, or troubleshooting.
Compliance and Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards like, data protection laws, IT security protocols.
• Identify and mitigate potential IT-related risks to the organization.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
• Understanding of relevant IT standards, protocols, and security practices.
• At least 3-5 years post qualification experience as an IT Officer.
• Experience with hardware and software troubleshooting, network management, and security protocols.
• Experience with cloud computing, databases, and enterprise-level software applications.
• Ability to do backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure management, including network, servers, and storage systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent technical skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
Barriers to Success in Role
• Limited or lack of technical knowledge about IT standards, protocols, and security practices.
• Inability to monitor systems for potential issues and ensure data security.
