Location: Kampala, Uganda.

Reports to: Chief Technical Officer

Position Summary:

The IT Infrastructure Lead is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of the organization's IT infrastructure. This includes hardware, software, networks, servers, storage, and cloud services. The Lead ensures the availability, reliability, security, and performance of these systems to support the organization's business objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Design and Planning:
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive IT infrastructure roadmap aligned with business needs and technology trends.
    • Design and implement scalable and secure IT infrastructure solutions that meet current and future requirements.
    • Evaluate new technologies and recommend infrastructure upgrades or enhancements.
  • Infrastructure Implementation:
    • Lead the installation, configuration, and integration of new hardware, software, and network components.
    • Oversee the deployment of cloud-based solutions and manage cloud infrastructure resources.
    • Ensure seamless migration from legacy systems to new platforms.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance and Support:
    • Proactively monitor and manage the performance, capacity, and availability of IT infrastructure.
    • Perform regular maintenance tasks, including patching, updates, backups, and disaster recovery.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Implement robust security measures to protect the IT infrastructure from unauthorized access, data breaches, and cyber-attacks.
    • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal security policies.
    • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Team Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of IT infrastructure professionals.
    • Assign tasks, track progress, and ensure timely completion of projects.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Budgeting and Procurement:
    • Develop and manage the IT infrastructure budget.
    • Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers.
    • Evaluate and recommend cost-effective infrastructure solutions.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Create and maintain detailed documentation of the IT infrastructure, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
    • Prepare regular reports on infrastructure performance, capacity, and security for management review.
  • Vendor Management:
    • Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers.
    • Monitor vendor performance and ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
    • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions for IT infrastructure services.

Education, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure management.
  • Proven track record of leading successful infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is highly desirable.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, MCSE, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect are a plus.
  • Strong technical knowledge of servers, networks, storage, and virtualization technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
