JOB DETAILS:
Omia Agribusiness Development Group Ltd is a private for-profit company that is committed to farmer success. The firm ensures that every farmer has access to climate-smart and quality Agricultural Inputs for crop and animal production, Agricultural Extension Services and Linkages to profitable output markets. The main offices are in Arua city but operations stretch across Uganda and South Sudan. Since its operations started in July, 2018, the company has reached over 43,000 farmers supporting them to produce and earn more from their agribusiness enterprises.

Roles and responsibilities of the Irrigation Engineer

1. Design, install, and manage irrigation systems, including pumps, control systems, and pipelines, while performing specialized tasks during adverse weather and facility closures.

2. Provide technical support to farmers, recommending upgrades and replacements for water systems, detecting and fixing leaks, and ensuring efficient system performance.
3. Develop in-depth knowledge of Omia Agribusiness products and services to assess market opportunities and promote water-saving technologies and sustainable practices, such as soil conservation and water management.
4. Conduct field surveys, collect data, document challenges, and report findings to aid decision-making, supporting ongoing irrigation system improvements.
5. Collaborate with the team to train farmer groups on irrigation technologies, assess training needs, and implement tailored programs for efficient farming.
6. Maintain accurate farmer profiling, oversee asset care, stay updated on industry trends, and regularly communicate key updates to management while submitting progress reports on irrigation system installations and performance.

Qualification and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in AGRICULTURAL or IRRIGATION ENGINEERING
Knowledge and work experience of wet utilities, pressure pipes, drainages and portable solar water pumps installation.
Past experience in Irrigation works and Agricultural Inputs Business is an added advantage

Physical Requirements:
Must be willing to travel to the field.
Ability to ride a motorcycle is a MUST.
