High-Level Overview The client is seeking an Investment Officer - Intermediaries to lead intermediated investment activities within the distributed renewable energy (DRE) sector across Eastern and Southern Africa. This role will focus on structuring and managing financial facilities through partner institutions to scale last-mile DRE financing, addressing access-to-finance constraints while enabling market expansion. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in structured finance, financial institutions engagement, and renewable energy investment in emerging markets.
Role and Responsibilities

Key Deliverables
- Develop and prioritize a pipeline of eligible financial intermediaries across target markets
- Structure and deliver credit and risk-sharing facilities to financial institutions for DRE financing
- Establish and implement a portfolio monitoring framework aligned with internal and donor requirements
- Produce market assessments identifying barriers to intermediated DRE financing
- Manage portfolio performance, including reporting, compliance tracking, and risk flagging
Requirements Experience Required:
- Proven experience in structuring and executing debt or guarantee facilities with financial institutions
- Experience working in renewable energy, infrastructure, or climate finance in emerging markets
- Track record of managing investment pipelines and closing transactions
- Experience engaging with commercial banks, MFIs, or leasing companies
- Exposure to African markets or similar frontier markets
Technical Requirements
- Strong structuring capability across credit lines, guarantees, and blended finance instruments
- Ability to assess financial institution risk profiles and align facility design accordingly
- Experience in portfolio monitoring, risk management, and performance tracking frameworks
- Understanding of distributed renewable energy business models and financing needs
- Ability to coordinate with treasury, credit, and investment committees
