The Internship opportunity aims at providing hands-on experience in supporting Women Human Rights Defenders. The experience will also empower and prepare the young professionals to support the growth of Women’s rights, gender equality, and Protection for frontline Women Defenders and Women’s empowerment. The internship is for a period of 7 months (October 2025 to April 2026). The Internship placement is in Kampala district.

About WHRDN-U
The Women Human Rights Defenders Network Uganda (WHRDN-U) is a nationwide membership organization comprising diverse women human rights defenders (WHRDs), as well as organizations and individuals. We currently represent over 148 WHRDs from diverse social movements in Uganda, promoting the rights of women defenders to a safe and secure work environment with a vision of having a society where fundamental human rights are upheld and respected. We exist to promote a feminist, holistic approach integrating a gender perspective as a framework for the protection of WHRDs. We aim to provide WHRDs with access to gender-sensitive and timely protection and empowerment resources, tools to combat gender-based and other forms of violence connected to their work. WHRDN-U is hereby seeking to recruit competent and vibrant Ugandans to fill the following positions.
Job Summary:
The Interns will support WHRDN-U’s program and Administration Departments in Kampala and gain valuable experience in the non-profit sector. The Internship opportunity aims at providing hands-on experience in supporting Women Human Rights Defenders. The experience will also empower and prepare the young professionals to support the growth of Women’s rights, gender equality, and Protection for frontline Women Defenders and Women’s empowerment. The internship is for a period of 7 months (October 2025 to April 2026). The Internship placement is in Kampala district.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks
I) ADMINISTRATION SUPPORT
- Day-to-day workplace management, Support to maintain proper filing and records systems. Support in handling incoming calls, receiving visitors, answering phone queries, and directing calls to relevant staff.
- Administrative operations:
- Support to follow up with resource persons and consultants.
- Assist with scheduling and following up on staff periodic planning meetings
- Support to follow up with the website focal person every month
- Assist with scheduling staff activity debrief meetings
- Assist with following up with staff reports, including activity reports, weekly. Monthly and quarterly reports
- Assist with coordinating staff development sessions
2) PROGRAM SUPPORT
- Support in planning and organizing program events
- Support with the implementation of activities
- Assist in representing the organization in meetings
- Support officer in writing activity reports and minutes
- Work with the program teams to clean up the membership database
- Any Other duties assigned to you at the secretariat.
QUALIFICATIONS,
The ideal candidates for the Internship opportunities should at least have a Bachelor’s degree in social work, Social Sciences, or Development studies, Gender& Women studies, Community psychology, and any relevant humanities.

- The Intern should also be self-motivated, dynamic, hardworking, and innovative.
- Computer literacy skills
- The candidate should be outspoken and confident.
- Public speaking skills and likes people
- A keen interest in advancing human rights, especially women’s rights.
- Willingness to work as a team
- Have a voluntary spirit
- Excellent command of the English language, thus can communicate fluently in spoken and written English.
