Yalelo Uganda is an aquaculture firm in Uganda, focusing on providing high quality tilapia grown on Lake Victoria to the whole country. Yalelo additionally operates in Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Malawi, and South Africa.

The Position
Yalelo Uganda seeks an experienced and dynamic Human Resources Manager to join the team. The HR Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that align with the Company’s overall business objectives while promoting empowerment, quality, productivity, and goal attainment. This role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in HR management, employee relations, talent acquisition, and organizational development.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement HR strategies that support the Company’s mission and objectives.
• Collaborate with senior management to align HR policies and practices with business goals.

• Develop and implement performance management frameworks, policies, and processes that are robust and transparent.
• Drive and manage the Company’s recruitment function from preparing the JD, advert, shortlisting, interviewing, selection and finally onboarding.

• Developing and maintaining relationships needed to find top talent such as networking through industry contacts, associations, targeted partnerships (campus recruitment), etc.

• Develop and implement employee retention strategies.
• Act as a mediator in employee disputes and guide conflict resolution.

• Handle all employee relations matters ranging from discipline and grievance handling to labor relations matters and others.
• Manage the performance appraisal process and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the performance management system; develop improvement actions.

• Provide coaching and support to managers in conducting effective performance reviews and equip them with the skills and tools to mentor, train and provide job coaching.
• Identify training needs and develop programs and customized learning and development strategies to enhance employee skills and knowledge; facilitate training sessions and workshops as necessary.

• Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance with employment laws, Company policies and other legal requirements and help management understand HR risks and how to manage them effectively; interpret policy and procedures consistently and objectively and keep abreast of legislative developments related to employment.
• Participate in developing and maintaining resources, templates, employment practices, policies and procedures and tools to ensure effectiveness of the HR team and consistency in HR practice across the business.
• Track and analyze HR metrics to assess the effectiveness of HR programs and prepare regular reports for senior management on HR-related activities.
• Oversee and ensure the effective management and integrity of all HR management transactions including leave, transfers, salaries and salary payments, advances and benefits administration.
• Developing and implementing a structured, considered, fit-for-purpose Employee Health and Wellness program - planning interventions based on risk and needs analysis. Promoting an occupationally healthy and safe environment for all employees within the organization.

Key Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Social sciences or Business (preferred).
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience working across HR functions, with proven experience as an HR Manager or in a senior HR role of which at least 4 should have been in a Management or Senior Supervisory role.
• In-depth knowledge of HR functions, employment laws, and best practices and proven experience leading the development of HR strategies, initiatives, policies, and programs.
• Strong leadership and communication skills that inspire trust and confidence.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships at all levels of the organization.
• Experience in project management and automation of HR systems.
• Experience with HR Management modules within ERP systems (Sage, MS Dynamics, or related systems, etc.) and experience in setting and managing budgets.
• Outstanding attention to detail and excellent time management, analytical and organizational skills.
