Job Summary: The Human Resource Officer plays a key role in supporting the human resources function at the hotel in Fort Portal, Uganda. This position is responsible for assisting with various HR activities, including recruitment, onboarding, training, employee relations, and compliance. The HR Officer will collaborate with the HR Manager and department heads to ensure the hotel attracts, retains, and develops a talented workforce while fostering a positive work environment aligned with the hotel's values and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with recruitment efforts, including job posting, candidate screening, scheduling interviews, conducting reference checks, and preparing employment offers.
  • Coordinate new employee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a smooth transition for new hires into their roles and the hotel's culture.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personnel files, attendance records, and performance evaluations, in compliance with legal requirements and company policies.
  • Support training and development initiatives by coordinating training sessions, workshops, and seminars for staff to enhance their skills and competencies.
  • Handle employee inquiries and concerns regarding HR policies, benefits, payroll, and other employment-related matters, providing timely and effective resolution.
  • Assist with employee relations activities, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures, while promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Conduct exit interviews with departing employees to gather feedback, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Administer HR-related processes and programs, such as performance appraisal systems, employee recognition programs, and employee engagement surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, regulations, and company policies by staying informed about legal requirements and assisting with policy development and enforcement.
  • Support HR Manager in special projects, initiatives, and HR-related administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of [3-4] years of experience in human resources, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices related to recruitment, employee relations, and HR administration in Uganda.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and HRIS software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and handle sensitive information with tact and professionalism.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
