Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Applicants under health services must have a CGPA of 3.0 or above and hold a valid annual practicing license. They must also meet the following requirements:

Specialist Medical Doctors – aged below 35 years. Applicant must hold a Master’s degree in oncology, cardiology, radiology, medicine and surgery, neurology, ophthalmology, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), anaesthesia, paediatrics, psychiatry, orthodontics, urology, internal medicine, family medicine, or medical emergency.

Specialist Pharmacists — must hold a Master’s degree and be aged below 35 years.

Medical Officers — must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree and be aged below 30 years.

Dental Surgeons – must hold a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and be aged below 30 years.

Nurses – aged below 28 years.

Specialist Nurses – applicant must hold a Master’s degree in critical care, paediatrics, or palliative care.

Diploma holders – critical care, paediatrics, palliative care, psychiatry, or emergency.

Certificate holders – dialysis, psychiatry, intensive care.

Allied Health Workers – aged below 28 years.

Allied Health Specialist. Applicant must hold a Master’s degree in cytotechnology, optometry, chiropractic medicine, speech and language therapy, anaesthesia, physiotherapy, or dental technology.

Degree holders (cytotechnology, optometry, chiropractic medicine, speech and language therapy, anaesthesia, physiotherapy, or dental technology),

Diploma holders (ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), Pharmacy, physiotherapy, ophthalmology, clinical psychiatry, or health promotion)

Certificate holders specialised in theatre techniques.

Other categories – aged below 30 years.

Clinical Psychologists— must hold a Master’s degree in the field.

Health Informatics— must hold a Master’s degree in the field.

Holders of Bachelor of Science in Health Information.

Biomedical Engineers:

Bachelor’s Degree holders.

Diploma holders.

Holders of Certificate in Pathology/Mortuary techniques.

Health Records and Information Management Personnel — must hold a Diploma in the field and be aged below 28 years.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must meet all the following conditions:

Citizenship: Must be adult Ugandan citizens and possess a valid National Identification Card.

Health and Fitness: must be physically and medically fit, and prepared to undergo the required tests.

Character: Must be law‑abiding citizens with no criminal record.

Recommendation: Applications must be signed by the LCI, LCII, and LCIII Chairpersons, the GISO or DISO, and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC). Applicants must also be residents of the area in which they apply.

Applying Instructions

All aspiring candidates must submit their applications online through the official UPDF Recruitment Portal at Click here to apply. Applicants will be required to upload their applications accompanied by the following documents:

  • Passport photo.
  • Academic documents from recognized institutions.
  • National Identity Card.

Phase 2: Shortlist and Display (01 – 14 July 2026).

A shortlist of successful candidates will be published on the UPDF website and displayed at the respective City and District headquarters.

Phase 3: Physical Recruitment (20 July – 01 August 2026).

Physical recruitment will be conducted nationwide, covering all districts and cities. The specific dates will be communicated in due course. Shortlisted applicants will be required to report individually to their assigned recruitment centers for physical and medical interviews. They must bring the following requirements:

  • Handwritten application bearing recommendations from LCI, 11, 111 and GISO/DISO
  • National Identity Card/NIN.
  • Original and copies of academic documents. Graduate documents must be certified.
  • Three (03) coloured passport-size photographs.

Each successful applicant will be issued an introduction card, which must be presented upon arrival at the assigned training centers on the stipulated dates.
