School Nursing Team

Location: School Nurse South and East Teams (base Hawick Health Centre)

Post: Band 3 HCSW – 19.5 hrs per week annualised throughout term-time

The School Nursing Team is seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Health Care Support Worker with the ability to work with children. The successful candidate will work with other members of the team to undertake growth reviews for children in primary 1. This review is part of a primary 1 health review and takes place within the school environment. Some children may also require vision screening but training for both measuring children and vision screening is given. As this work can only be undertaken during school terms, the successful candidate will work from around the beginning of September until the middle of June. This means the successful candidate will work more than 19.5 hrs per week for approximately 36-38 weeks of the year and have school holidays off. Payment will be spread across the full year resulting in 19.5 hrs being paid for 52 weeks of the year. This post involves extensive travel and the successful candidate must have access to a car.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be a team player to be successful in the role. There are clear lines of reporting into the management structure and support from experienced specialist school nurses and school nurses to aid your development. You must have excellent time management skills, the ability to prioritise the workload, take direction and act on advice and guidance from senior/experienced staff. As working directly with Children, Young People and their families, experience with working with Children, Young People and their Families as well as working within a multi-professional team is desirable but consideration will be given to candidates with other key skills.
