About the client: PSS has been mandated to hire a Group Chief Commercial Officer for one of the leading distribution pharma organizations.

Job Purpose

The main purpose of this position is to lead the development and implementation of Marketing and Sales strategies across the organization/group. The holder is also responsible for the attainment of commercial targets and long-term value creation in a bid to grow company sales and profits within all areas of its operations.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Commercial Growth

Develop and oversee the implementation of the Commercial vision, strategy and resource requirements to successfully address business revenue and EBIDTA targets in all Business entities.

Provide strategic leadership as a member of the Executive Committee Team (ExCo) for commercial growth across the Group as well as guide overall corporate business development initiatives.

Advise the GCEO on improvements and current trends in marketing and competition approaches.

Lead all commercial Business development strategic initiatives including branding, sales force product positioning, pricing, and market access strategies as well as resource planning across the group.

Distribution Network Development

Research trends and policies in domestic and international markets to better understand and explore opportunities within these markets.

Partner with internal and external stakeholders and advisors (including the Group Business Development team, Finance, Regulatory, Legal, and Compliance) on the evaluation, due diligence, and technical assessments of the potential business partners.

Make relevant recommendations for the opening of new customers and suggest credit limits.

Assess risks involved with new initiatives, ensure deadlines are met, and be ready to handle unexpected situations.

Research And Key Markets Development

Expand the Organisation’s Pharma Distribution footprint across Africa through the creation/ opening of new branches/ distribution centers.

Identify opportunities to expand the business, including through partnerships, mergers, and new market ventures.

Provide market intelligence to support strategic business decisions in terms of future development of existing and new product solutions.

Work with and support Supply Chain and Regulatory functions to ensure continuous Brand growth in both domestic and international markets.

Strategic Relationship Building And Networking

Identify and cultivate impactful relationships both internally and across the Pharma industry to help the company capitalize on external opportunities consistent with the long-term business strategy.

Maintain sustainable and productive relationships with existing clients, Organisation employees, and contractors.

Identify and develop partnering opportunities to enhance market reach.

Builds and maintains proactive and positive relationships with all Business partners and other stakeholders to ensure that the Organisation retains brand equity and is well-positioned to utilize its network for revenue growth.

Effectively represent the Organisation in the corporate marketplace and events for commercial purposes

Steer Business Compliance

Work with the Legal and Compliance team to ensure all the necessary information and documentation required for all commercial transactions are provided accordingly.

Continuously monitor compliance for the Commercial team in line with the statutory obligations across the group and guide the team accordingly.

Functional Leadership And Talent Development

Oversee the effective management of all financial aspects of the commercial function for the Distribution business including budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and overall management and accountability.

Build, Coach, Mentor and retain a team of outstanding talent with the ability to demonstrate exceptional sales growth.

Develop and guide the implementation of staff motivation programs.

Lead the identification of capacity gaps among the team and establish strategies to monitor their implementation.

Develop and monitor the delivery of the set KPIs for staff under Supervision.

Educational Qualifications And Experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in either Pharmacy, BSc. degree or any Business-related field
  • A Master’s degree in Marketing or a Business-related field is desirable.
  • Over ten (10) years of working experience in a related field, four (4) years of which should be in at a Senior Management position.
  • Medical background or Pharma experience is an added advantage.
  • Other certifications or exposure in Commercial Management, Supplier Relationship Management, Contract Management and Procurement are also preferred.
