About the job
Responsible for the overall management and operation of the Gift Shop. Evaluates, selects and negotiates purchase of Gift Shop merchandise, ensuring competitive pricing and attractive presentation of merchandise. Ensures that the image and style of the Gift Shop is always projected and serves as a respite to patients, visitors and GBMC employees. Responsible for the hiring, training, and retention of both paid staff and volunteers. Coordinates sales and special events to drive additional revenue and build customer base. Partners with the Volunteer Auxiliary to raise money for GBMC through gift shop sales.Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred; major in general business or retail management. Relevant experience may be substituted for education requirement Experience: 6 years of progressive, related experience; experience as a retail merchandise buyer required. Supervisory experience and working with volunteers preferred. Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of retailing practices, inventory control, merchandise pricing and presentation
- Comprehensive ability to evaluate, select, and negotiate purchase of appropriate merchandise for sale
- Skill in marketing principles with ability to successfully market store through various outlets
- Knowledgeable of trends and timing in the marketplace
- Ability to secure outside vendors and maintain relationships
- Coordination and implementation of special events and promotions
- Extensive experience in business planning, data analysis and interpretation
- Knowledgeable of Point of Sale system software, functions, reporting and administration
- Ability to perform all functions of operating the shop without assistance
- Experience in implementation of loss prevention strategies
- Skill in written and oral communication
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
