Job Purpose
A General Mechanic is responsible for maintenance, diagnostic, and repair tasks on a variety of mechanical systems, often working with vehicles, machinery, or equipment in various industries. This role is hands-on and may involve troubleshooting, part replacements, and preventative maintenance.

Specific Responsibilities
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and other components.
• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure machinery or vehicles are operational and safe.

• Handle basic and complex repairs, such as replacing parts, performing tune-ups, and adjusting systems.
• Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify issues and determine the most effective repair solutions.

• Interpret error codes and symptoms to find and fix problems efficiently.
• Document findings and actions taken to support accurate record-keeping.
• Conduct regular inspections of machinery or vehicles to identify potential issues before they cause breakdowns.
• Test systems after repairs to ensure they are functioning correctly and meet safety standards.
• Report any equipment requiring more extensive repairs or replacements.
• Maintain tools and diagnostic equipment to ensure they are ready for use and in good working condition.
• Calibrate or adjust tools as necessary for accurate diagnostics and repairs.
• Document all repair and maintenance work completed, noting parts used, issues found, and time spent on each task.

• Maintain accurate service records and communicate necessary follow-up actions.
• Adhere to all workplace safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Follow safety protocols to avoid accidents and injuries while working with heavy equipment or in potentially hazardous environments.

Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical school certification is a plus.
• Proven experience as a mechanic, with hands-on experience in vehicle, machinery, or equipment repair.
• 3+ years working in a similar position in a busy equipment/ vehicle workshop preferably in a Transport company, FMCG company or manufacturing and production company.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and tools.
• Physical ability to lift heavy objects and work in various environmental conditions.
