JOB DETAILS:
The Gender and Safeguarding Officer will integrate gender-responsive approaches across the EYE-C program and ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants, particularly young women. The role involves developing and implementing safeguarding policies, conducting training, and ensuring compliance with national and international standards on gender equality and protection.
Key Responsibilities
Gender Mainstreaming
- Ensure gender-responsive strategies are embedded in all program activities.
- Support the development of policies and practices that promote gender equity in the coffee value chain.
- Conduct gender-sensitive assessments and contribute to program design with a gender lens.
Safeguarding & Protection
- Develop and implement safeguarding policies to protect program participants, especially young women.
- Conduct training for staff, partners, and beneficiaries on safeguarding, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, and reporting mechanisms.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with safeguarding protocols across program activities.
Capacity Building & Training
- Provide technical support on gender and safeguarding to project teams and implementing partners.
- Organize workshops and training on women’s rights, gender equality, and workplace safety in agriculture.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to donor, national, and international safeguarding regulations.
- Establish clear reporting mechanisms for safeguarding concerns and supporting case management as needed.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Collect and analyze gender-disaggregated data to assess program impact.
- Prepare reports on gender and safeguarding initiatives for internal and donor reporting.
- Contribute to learning and knowledge-sharing on best practices in gender and safeguarding.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Development Studies, Human Rights, or a related field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in gender mainstreaming, safeguarding, or protection in development programs.
- Experience working with women’s economic empowerment programs, preferably in agriculture.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding principles, GBV prevention, and child protection policies.
- Excellent training and facilitation skills with experience in capacity building.
- Familiarity with Uganda’s gender policies, labor laws, and international safeguarding standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills & Competencies
- Experience in the coffee sector or agricultural value chains is an advantage.
- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector actors.
- Fluency in English and local Ugandan languages is an added advantage
