Job Title: Financial Accountant

Reporting Unit/Supervisor: Financial Controller

Location: Kampala

Grade: 7

Position Description

The role focuses on ensuring that internal and external reporting deadlines are being met and to ensure that TechnoServe and donor financial guidelines are being adhered to.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review documents and post financial data into the Finance system (Serenic Navigator) and process payments
• Support month-end closing process through reviewing and reconciling GL accounts and ensuring that entries are posted correctly
• Prepare monthly cash requests to be submitted to the Home Office
• Manage staff advances and ensure timely accountabilities are submitted
• Ensure all taxation and legislative requirements of Uganda are complied with at all times e.g timely submission of statutory returns i.e. PAYE, NSFF, WHT etc
• Supporting the Financial Controller with coordinating the compilation of internal and external financial reports and budgets for programs
• Support training of field staff in principles of financial reporting and financial and administrative control for field site operations
• Assisting staff to develop a stronger understanding of TechnoServe Inc. systems and procedures and ensuring compliance
• Provide advice on financial options available in project planning and implementation
• Support the Financial Controller in ensuring that the information in the Fixed Asset register accurately reflects the information per the financial system
• Support the implementation of new financial policies and procedures
• Identifying and contributing to the improvement of internal systems and procedures within the finance department.
• Prepare and maintain audit files for review by internal and external auditors
• Participate in the annual audit exercise and liaise with staff on the implementation of audit recommendations given in the reports to
• Liaise with Financial Controller in the selection and periodic evaluation of audit firms.

Qualifications And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years’ experience OR Master’s degree plus 1-year experience preferably in accounting, business administration, economics, or other relevant area;
• Accounting qualification e.g. CPA, ACCA is an added advantage
• Demonstrated experience working in a similar position within a large private sector company, international organization or a consulting firm
• PC computer skills in MS word, excel and PowerPoint required and knowledge of Serenic Navigator or other fund-based accounting software preferred
