WORK OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE YOUNG EXTENSION WORKERS IN THE IRISH POTATO VALUE CHAIN IN SOUTH WESTERN AND WESTERN UGANDA
Newman Foods Ltd is a legally registered company incorporated in Laws of Uganda as a company limited by shares in 2013. The company deals in horticulture for both local and export markets. The current business activities include adding value to agricultural products and exporting fresh fruits and vegetables.

In partnership with the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU)- Enhancing Lead Firm Structure for Youth Employment in Uganda Project Newman Foods Limited is implementing a two (2) year project to scale into technological innovations and create 4,100 work opportunities for the youth aged 18-35 years across the horticulture lower, middle, and high stream value chains.

The project is being implemented in areas of Kisoro, Kabarole and Bunyangabu districts.

Newman therefore seeks to recruit Extension Workers for the Irish potato value chain in the districts of Kisoro, Kabarole and Bunyangabu to enhance production through provision of extension services and training of farmers to ensure volumes, compliance to Newman Foods Limited and regulatory requirements among other obligations.

Job Purpose:
Enhancement of production through provision of extension services and training of farmers to ensure volumes, compliance to Newman Foods Limited and regulatory requirements.

Job Specification:
• Work closely with selected MSMEs, CBOs and district departments of production in executing project activities Support synergies with govemment programs/projects and any other similar projects working with the youths in agriculture
• Mobilization farmers and group formation
• Provision of extension services and training
• Lead implementation of recommended practices of productivity and post-harvest handling
• Verification of farmers' performance through visits at planned intervals
• Organizing farmer group meetings
• Liaise with external parties, such as consultants and concerned regulatory bodies on issues regarding activities of farmers' groups Support activities geared towards project monitoring and evaluation
• Make input towards improving project performance
• Prepare timely high quality project related weekly, monthly.

Minimum requirements:
• Experience in agricultural extension work with rural communities for at least 3 years
• Ability to ride a motorcycle
• Knowledge of the local language within the region of deployment
• Excellent communication skills and able to speak English with at least one local language

• Should be self-driven, result oriented and good at networking
• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture or Horticulture.

The intervention focuses on creating, maintaining and sustaining growth in job markets through strengthening the capacity of actors to efficiently produce and sell their goods and services in expanded markets, developing new diversified financing mechanisms as well as growing the capacity of business leaders and their support service providers to manage and expand their enterprises. This transformative intervention will also transition Micro Enterprises to Small Enterprises
