On behalf of our client, we are looking for a suitable, competent and skilled Environmental and Social Manager to work in Uganda.

Job Summary

The environmental and Social Manager will be responsible to ensure that the company is operating in accordance with environmental guidelines and targets. Your role will involve examining corporate activities to determine where improvements can be made and ensuring compliance with the government of Uganda’s environmental legislation.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, issue, and review the environmental and social system documents, informing all members of the staff of the documents and informing sub-contractors of the environmental requirements to be provided.
  • Acquire license permits from official authorities, implement a monitoring and measurement program, provide training sessions, periodically monitor legal compliance, perform simulations of the environmental emergency procedure, and implement all specific procedures related to the environment and social issues.
  • Management of environmental and social documentation, ensuring that environmental legislation and best practices are complied with and that targets are achieved.
  • Preparation and issuance of reports on the environment and social issues.
  • Representing the company in environmental and social meetings.
  • In charge of analyzing and implementing environmental and social management framework and carrying out the relevant environment and social studies.
  • Execution, analysis, and implementation of the environment and social impact assessments, environment, and social management plans, and waste management plans for the project, according to the specifications and the contract, including the procedures to obtain regulatory clearances/ permissions.
  • Implementation of ESMPs, environmental monitoring/auditing.
  • In charge of implementing/ monitoring the resettlement action plan.
  • In charge of social impact assessment of infrastructure project.
  • Ensure full knowledge of both the Government of Uganda and the World Bank’s relevant guidelines, procedures, and operational policies/directives.
  • He must implement and monitor social / resettlement management plans and supervise & monitoring the implementation of the plans.
  • Analysis and implementation of the project briefs for the borrow-pits.

 Experience and Competences

  • Relevant Degree or Postgraduate in Environmental Engineering/ Management or related field.
  • Minimum professional experience of Five (5) years in similar functions on related road construction projects on maintenance is a must.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skill’s, exceptional ability in communication and networking, negotiations, and writing
  • Ability to manage and work with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality, and age sensitivity and adaptability
  • Excellent leadership, coordination, and team working skills
  • Builds strong relationships with clients, focuses on impact and, result for the client & responds positively to feedback
  • Good team player who has ability to maintain good relationships
