Job Description

Main Purpose:

To ensure that the MTN Uganda Home Broadband installations are in compliance to acceptable technical standards and regulatory requirements and customer experience. To ensure all relevant processes are followed to implement quality control during design, installation, acceptance testing and commissioning of FTTx projects.

Job Title: Quality Engineer Home Broadband

Reports to: Senior Manager Technology, Home Broadband

No. of Vacancies: 2

Main Job Functions:

  • Ensure adherence to quality and industry standards, as well as compliance to environmental and regulatory guidelines for FTTx projects.
  • Conduct regular site inspections for fiber installations, end to end terminations and all related civil works.
  • Review Bill of Materials and Bill of Quantities preparation and execution for different fiber works.
  • Carry out preliminary and final acceptance test procedures for completed works.
  • Identify defects and installation snags and recommend corrective measures.
  • Maintain accurate records/documentation of test results, quality audits, corrective actions and as-built files.
  • Prepare accurate quality reports for management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure end-to-end connectivity meets customer experience service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of quality-related issues including root cause analysis and process improvements.
  • Audit of network infrastructure and recommend corrective actions for quality issues.
  • Contractor and vendor management to ensure adherence to quality benchmarks.
  • Train field teams on best practices and undertake research to enhance efficiency of quality processes

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication / Electrical Engineering or any other relevant degree.
  • Or Diploma in Telecommunications Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering, with recognized Certifications such as CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician), FOA, or equivalent fiber optic credentials.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of two years in FTTx deployment.
  • Must have strong understanding of GPON architecture and network delivery.
  • Must have a valid driving license with at least two (2) years driving experience

 

Skills / physical competencies:

  • Driving skills with valid driving license carrying at least two years driving experience for field work.
  • Fiber Installation and Deployment Certifications.
  • Certifications or training courses on GPON Deployment will be of advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Software (MS Excel, MS Project, MS Work, MS Power Point, SharePoint etc.
  • Project Management with certification (PMP) will be of advantage.
  • Proficiency in Map reading and survey tools (Google Earth, QGIS, Microsoft Visio)
  • Experience in handling Right of Way processes.
  • Strategic Planning with ability to develop and implement quality plans, perform audits, and use statistical tools for analysis.
