Challenges

• It should be understood that the contract requires travel to potentially dangerous areas.Insurance and protective measures are provided, however, a medium/high degree of risk is inherent to working conditions in a dangerous environment.
• Able to work under pressure and to strict deadlines

Knowledge and Experience

• Electrical Engineering Degree Required
• Must have Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Design Engineer preferably in multiple disciplines.
• Must be competent in working to both British Standard (BS) and US (NFPA/NEC) codes.
• Experience of renewable energy desired.
• Comfortable in a highly entrepreneurial and continuously changing environment
• Commercial awareness of design.
• Must have a Registered Electrician License.
• Electrician tertiary degree; or equivalent
• Track record of interacting effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of government, private sector, and civil society counterparts
• Professional proficiency in English
• Excellent written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills
• Previous experience in Africa preferred
• Familiar with developing Specifications and Standards.
• Computer Skills (CAD Design Skills, MS Office Experience (in particular EXCEL).

• Must be able to work independently.
Travel Requirements

Travel within African continent as and when needed for proposal management and Business Development purposes.

 

Responsibilities

1. Carry out Electrical Engineering Analysis & Produce Calculations

2. Develop designs from project specifications.
3. Check and evaluate design and material specifications for tender.
4. Review Electrical Designs & For Construction Drawings
5. Incorporate feedback from projects and customers for design clarification and modifications during the development and construction project phases.
6. Carry out low level Quantity Surveying for BOM production
7. Provide Electrical Engineering Advice to Project and Site Managers
8. Designing of power distribution systems including associated load, fault current and voltage drop calculations.
9. Carrying out design reviews at appropriate intervals during the design process with the Lead Engineer.
10. Responding to site RFIs, conducting reviews of specialist suppliers or contractor prepared designs, and attending site meetings to resolve construction issues.
11. In-depth knowledge of local electrical regulations, international design standards and codes of practice; as well as a basic knowledge of local and international building codes, and structural / architectural industry practices.
12. Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
13. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct eventual problem.
14. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
15. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
16. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system
17. Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
18. Installation and terminations of both low voltage distribution cables as well as standard medium/high voltage cables

19. Installations of MV/LV and HV/MV transformers and substations

 

Job Requirements
