JOB DETAILS:
Summary:
The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of PEPFAR Senior Health Communications Advisor.

The work schedule for this position is:

Full Time, 40 hours per week
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time following receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: No.

Duties:
• The Senior Health Communications Advisor will work with the Public Affairs Section to develop Mission-wide strategic health messaging and communication plans to increase awareness of USG’s health programs in Uganda among targeted audiences.

• They will be the advisor on all public awareness campaigns in health and will advise the IAHT and PEPFAR Coordination Office on press and media events, organize press and media relations and events, maintain press and media contacts, develop remarks and media materials (e.g., social media posts, press releases, brochures, fact sheets, visual displays, audio and video materials) and coordinate with relevant staff to promote press and media coverage of health activities.

Qualifications and Evaluations
EDUCATION:
• A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public health, public relations, or international studies is required.

Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional level experience in communication, journalism, public relations, or marketing which includes the development and management of written and electronic communication materials with some background in health communications is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
• Position requires advanced and detailed knowledge of the political, development, and health sector situation in order to tailor remarks and reflect U.S. foreign policy and provide high level advice on key talking points to U.S. Mission leadership.
• Position requires knowledge of standard practices for international development, health communication and disseminating messages in the host country context, including knowledge of strategic communication plan development and implementation, speech writing, project management, database and file management, and technical assistance regarding communications strategies.

Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:
• English: Level 4 – Fluent; written/spoken, including the ability to translate is required. This may be tested.
