As an equal opportunity employer, Bantwana Initiative Uganda. is seeking to hire full-time experienced /qualified persons to fill the following positions below for the anticipated 5-year USAID Uganda Targeting the Learning Crisis (TLC) Activity, which aims to create sustained, measurable improvements in development outcomes in Basic Education through Targeted Instruction (TI) for foundational skills, a learner-centric pedagogy that reorganizes math and reading instruction based on children’s actual learning levels, rather than on the prescribed gradelevel syllabus.
BIU as a consortium partner of the TLC Activity, seeks to implement a cost-effective, sustainable, and impactful programming, centered around evidence-based early childhood education for preprimary years, in order to significantly improve foundational skills and school readiness for Ugandan primary students using a Community Based Early Childhood Education (CBECE) model, in 14 districts of Uganda (7 in Lango sub region and 7 in Busoga sub region).

Job Title: Driver (2 positions)
Reports to: Operations Officer
Location: Jinja and Lira Uganda (indicate your preferred duty station)
Job Summary
The Driver will be responsible for driving and maintenance of Project motor vehicles and ensuring the safety and security of authorized passengers, cargo, equipment, and tools on board in line with
BIU policy and the traffic laws and regulations of Uganda. Also perform minor mechanical tasks.
Key Job responsibilities and duties Transportation & Safety
• Transport BIU staff and visitors as instructed.
• Ensure safety of passengers & luggage at all times.
• Observe speed limits and all BIU travel guidelines.
• Ensure use of seat belts at all times.
• Ensure proper communication procedures Vehicle Maintenance
• Maintain vehicles allocated in sound mechanical condition.
• Ensure washing & general cleaning of vehicles is maintained.
• Ensure that vehicles are fueled and serviced promptly.
• Report any faults/breakdowns & accidents immediately to the Procurement Officer
• Ensure First Aid Kits are complete and spare & tools are in allocated vehicle.
• Ensure that vehicle tools are always kept in allocated vehicle. Record Keeping
• Ensure that all vehicles have log sheets and pens.
• Maintain accurate vehicle records to ensure that all trips, fuel fill-ups, time and mileage readings are recorded.
• Ensure fuel fill ups entry is made in the log sheet timely,
• Ensure vehicle request forms are filled and submitted for travel allocation to Procurement Officer
• Submit all vehicle log sheets on a monthly basis to the Procurement Officer
• Ensure to check vehicle on daily basis and submit check list report to Procurement Officer
• Submit field trip report after every trip to the Procurement Officer
• Submit vehicle repair reports to the Procurement Officer every time before and after repairs
• Delivering and receiving mail
• Prompt delivery of all mail and maintain record on delivery book, inclusive of cheques and equipment.
• Check in post office for mail on a regular basis.
• Receive mail from partners and sub-offices and hand it over to the Procurement Officer.
• Check on vehicle comprehensive and 3rd party insurance
• Ensure that vehicle comprehensive and 3rd party insurance are valid.
• Inform Operations Officer 3 weeks in advance of renewals Mechanical activities
• Perform minor repairs as required and recommend major cases to the garage.
• Road test and certify all vehicles from the garages.
• Any other duties assigned by the Procurement Officer
Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities
• A minimum qualification of Uganda Certificate in Education (O-Level)
• Extensive knowledge of the Ugandan highway code
• Thorough understanding of the Geographical area of assignment
• English Language proficiency
• Flexibility and willingness to adjust to changing responsibilities.
• Certificates/Licenses: Class B, CM, and DL Driver’s License.
• At least 5 years of driving experience and Mechanical experience, driving in a reputable firm, public body, or NGO as an added advantage
