JOB DETAILS:
The Driver is responsible for providing transportation support for the EYE-C program team, facilitating travel to field locations, meetings, workshops, and events. The driver ensures the safety and maintenance of project vehicles while supporting program activities through reliable and efficient transportation services.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Services for EYE-C Program
- Provide safe and reliable transportation for program staff, consultants, and visitors to various locations in Uganda, including project sites, meetings, and events.
- Ensure the timely arrival and departure of all team members to program activities, ensuring punctuality and professionalism.
- Assist with transportation for program logistics, including transporting supplies, materials, and equipment to program sites.
Vehicle Maintenance and Management
- Ensure the regular maintenance, cleanliness, and readiness of assigned project vehicles.
- Monitor and report on vehicle condition, ensuring timely servicing and repairs when necessary.
- Maintain up-to-date records for vehicle usage, including logbooks, fuel consumption, and maintenance schedules.
- Ensure that vehicles are equipped with all necessary items for road safety (e.g., first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, etc.).
Compliance with Road Safety and Legal Requirements
- Adhere to all Ugandan traffic laws, safety regulations, and organizational policies while driving.
- Ensure the safety of passengers by following road safety protocols, including seatbelt use and driving speed limits.
- Report any accidents or incidents promptly, ensuring proper documentation and communication with the program management team.
Administrative Support
- Assist with administrative duties related to travel logistics, such as coordinating transport schedules and arranging vehicle bookings.
- Support program staff with delivery of documents, packages, or other materials to external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and at least 3 years of driving experience in an NGO or development setting.
- Familiarity with Uganda’s roads, particularly rural and remote areas.
- Experience in vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance, including checking oil, tire pressure, and other minor repairs.
Preferred Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with staff, partners, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality in providing transportation services.
- Knowledge of first aid is an advantage.
- Fluency in English and local Ugandan languages is a plus.
