About the Role:
To support the growth and implementation of our new strategy, we are currently seeking to hire one (1) talented Ugandan to fill the position of Driver for the Kampala Office. National travel will be required, including to rural areas for this role.
Job title: Driver
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Stipend: Gross UGX 510,000 per month
Preferred start date: January 2025
Duration: 6 months
Reports to: Finance & Logistics Officer
Expected travel: Regular domestic and travel to field offices
Key responsibilities
Vehicle Maintenance (30%)
• Complete all required daily, weekly, monthly and other vehicle checks as per policy.
• Report to the Finance & Logistics Officer regarding any maintenance or repair needs
• Accompany the vehicle to mechanics for repairs and maintenance
• Drive in safe and efficient manner to protect the vehicle and ensure longevity ▪ Conscientiously report information in the logbook and fuel logbook
• Ensure the vehicle is always clean inside as well as outside.
• Perform daily vehicle pre-departure checklist mentioned in the logbook.
• Inspect the vehicle to ensure that it is always ready for travels.
• Ensure the vehicle has a full first aid kit as well as and emergency kit always
• Check that the vehicle has all the items required for efficiency
• Maintain all legal documents in vehicle as required by law
• Be well versed and conversant with vehicle policy
Transport staff to programme areas safely (50%)
• Transportation of staff and goods to destinations as required
• Be available at office premises in time when called upon to transport the staff for official duties within or out of town.
• Ensure that you have a vehicle request for all official travel with staff.
• Report any accidents immediately to the nearest police station and to the head/ field office in line with the policy.
• Follow restless Development guidelines for travelling and speed limits
Administrative support (15%)
• Collect biweekly vehicle use requests and plan accordingly
• Create vehicle use calendar with the Finance & Logistics Officer
• Update the vehicle log sheets upon the start and end of every trip, ensuring the log sheets are signed by both the staff and driver. Presenting the logbook to the FLO/ FAC for review on a weekly basis and at the end of every month
• Support the Finance & Logistics Officer on non-vehicle administrative work as required
Others (5%)
• Other duties as required, including occasional work on weekends

Skills and experience
Essential
• Active, clean driver’s licence with class B and D1. Class DL is preferred
• A minimum of O Level certificate or equivalent relevant experience
• 1-2 years driving experience
• Good organisational skills
• Fluency in English with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to travel regularly to rural areas and spend nights if necessary
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to analyse problems and make sound operational decisions
• Passion, enthusiasm and interest in Restless Development’s mission.
Desirable
• An understanding of contemporary development issues particularly of Peace Building, Sexual Reproductive Health, Livelihoods, Youth and People With Disability Inclusion.
• Experience working in a youthful, multicultural environment
• Prior experience in a similar role within international development projects.
