About the Company:

Noonday Children’s Home is a nonprofit organization committed to ending child sex slavery through prevention. We identify those children who are at risk of being sold and help provide them a home environment in which their physical,  educational, emotional and spiritual needs can be met. By creating a supportive environment for each child served, we seek to ensure a childhood free from sex slavery and dramatically lower the risk for sexual exploitation.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, delivery and collection of mails, documents, supplies and equipment.
  • Ensuring children have gone to school and returned safely, especially the Secondary students, as well as how many, by taking roll call.
  • Responsible for conducting physical repairs and maintenance of the vehicles.
  • Responsible for carrying out preventative repairs on the organization vehicles.
  • Maintain vehicle logs, including record of usage of vehicle, daily mileage, fuel consumption and records of various repairs.
  • Ensure availability of all required documents/items in the car at all times, including vehicle insurance, first aid kit, necessary spare parts, etc.
  • Report any issues affecting children to the House Parents.
  • Ensure safety and to security of the children and vehicle during the journey and even when the vehicle is parked in town.
  • Ensure no unauthorized persons get access to the vehicle.
  • Ensure that all organization vehicles and motorcycles are regularly serviced and in good working mechanical condition. This includes checking water, oil and tire air pressure periodically.
  • Ensure soberness and alertness while on duty.
  • Ensure children are all in the Home in time in the evening.
  • Report any security issues to the House Parent.
  • Ensure time management when conducting your shifts.
  • Keep safely all fuel and lubricate receipts and records for easy accountability and ensure that Noonday Children’s Home vehicles are not used for personal business.
  • Any assignment given by your immediate supervisor (the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reason of your level of skills and experience)

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of Uganda Advanced  Education Certificate (UACE) or its equivalent. The candidate must have successfully completed this level with good grades.
  • A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is an added advantage
  • A valid driver’s license with a D code/ class or higher.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relevant knowledge in vehicle physical repairs and maintenance
  • At least 5 years driving experience
  • Preferably above the age of 35
  • Preferably of Christian faith
  • Excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws
  • Should be fluent in English and the commonly used local languages (Luganda, Samia, etc.).

Other required skills and competencies:

  • House Parent skills working with children’s homes, school warden, etc.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Self-driven and result oriented.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of ethical behavior.
  • Remain flexible in order to adapt changes in the work environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Possess a work ethic that includes neatness, punctuality, attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, word processing and spread sheets.
  • Maturity, honesty, integrity and a strong sense of ethics.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Patience and understanding
  • To be persuasive, persistent and firm.
