The Opportunity
This is an exciting time at NetHope as the organization operationalizes the 2024-2030 Strategic Plan and develops programs and services in collaboration with members and partners. NetHope is a growing organization and receives funding support from foundations, corporations, and USAID. Working with the Chief Administrative Officer, the Deputy Director ensures compliance with GAAP and USAID funding regulations. The Deputy Director will work across the NetHope team to develop program budgets, monitor program expenses, prepare monthly financial reports, and develop systems, policies, and processes to support the entire NetHope team.
Deputy Director, Finance
NetHope is seeking an experienced, organized, and enthusiastic professional to assist the CAO with overall organization budgeting, financial management, and operational systems.
The Deputy Director will work collaboratively with program leaders and Senior Leadership (SLT) members to provide financial management for contracts and grants and create budgets for new collaborative opportunities. The Deputy Director will be responsible for accurate allocation of funds and a clean annual audit.
Specific responsibilities include:
Budget Management
• Lead the annual budgeting process with budget owners
• Prepare monthly budget vs actual reports for budget owners and SLT
• Lead monthly budget review with budget holders to ensure strict budget management.
• Monitor expenditures against budget and work closely with program leads and budget owners to ensure expenditures are in line with available funding
• Reforecast budgets as needed to assist budget owners with the spend down of their resources
• Prepare a quarterly dashboard and present to all supervisors at State of NetHope
Financial Reporting and Grant Compliance
• Works in partnership and in support of the CAO to assure that financial operations are in accordance with organization, donor, GAAP and other jurisdictional regulations
• Manage the financial reporting and requirements for funded programs, leads funder audits as needed
• Prepare submission for NICRA on an annual basis
• Manage SAM.gov and other related external systems related to financial and grant compliance
• Serves as finance lead on the budget development for the proposal development process
• Oversee financial compliance of contracts and sub-agreements
Financial Operations
• Oversees all aspects of Accounts Receivable
• Oversees all aspects of Accounts Payable
• Manages US Payroll and staff time reporting
• Monitor the restricted net assets and the monthly release of funds
• Prepares monthly cash flow analysis
• Perform regular reviews and analysis of project financial data from QuickBooks to ensure accuracy of expense and revenue allocations.
• Maintains the chart of accounts in QuickBooks, timesheet system, the invoice processing system, and Expensify
• Manage the staff reimbursements and ensure policies are followed
• Oversite of the procurement process
• Lead the annual review of financial policies and conducts trainings for staff as appropriate; ensures jurisdictional and funder compliance
• Manages PTO and time off accruals to comply with local jurisdictions
Annual Audit
• Lead the annual audit process and serve as the primary contact with the external auditor
• Regularly communicate with auditor throughout the year if questions arise related to proper allocation of new funding or new policies
• Manage annual 990 preparation and submission with external auditor
Management and Leadership
• Supervise and develop the Financial Coordinator
• Manage external accountant work as needed
• Reviews organization insurance policies annually to ensure the appropriate coverage; manages annual insurance renewal
• Manages the travel request process and provides support as needed for travel readiness
• Manages contracts and internal contractor process
• Works in support of the CAO on risk management
• Supports CAO on quarterly meetings with the Finance, Audit and Investment Committee,
• provides committee support as needed
• Manages internal dynamics around change and supports a healthy work culture that embeds a global approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Education and Experience
• Experience managing finances and reporting for USAID contacts and/or cooperative agreements required
• Minimum 8 years' experience in a nonprofit finance position
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. CPA preferred
• Experience using QuickBooks, ADP, Tipalti, and Expensify preferred
• NGO experience a plus
Reporting and Working Conditions:
• This position is a full-time position that reports to the Chief Administrative Officer, supervises the Finance Coordinator, and works closely with budget holders across
NetHope.

Due to the global nature of the organization, meetings may thus be required at any time of the day to meet with our stakeholders in varying time zones. To meet these needs, NetHope embraces flexible schedules for team members, and we work with each other to be located globally, but still maintain a reasonable work time balance.
