JOB DETAILS:
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and diligent Declarations Officer to join our Customs team. The Declarations Officer will be responsible for managing and processing import and export declarations, ensuring compliance with all relevant customs laws, regulations, and policies. This role will involve interaction with customs brokers, importers, exporters, and other regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth and lawful international trade.

Key Responsibilities:
Process Customs Declarations:
• Review and process import and export declarations to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and trade agreements.
• Verify the accuracy of documentation, including invoices, packing lists, and shipping documents.

• Ensure correct classification, valuation, and tariff code application for goods being imported or exported.

Compliance & Documentation:
• Ensure all customs documentation is properly filed and stored in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Assist in audits or inspections conducted by customs authorities, ensuring full cooperation and accurate record-keeping.

• Review and confirm all required import/export permits, licenses, and certifications.

Customs Liaison:
• Serve as the primary point of contact for customs brokers, importers, exporters, and relevant regulatory agencies.
• Liaise with stakeholders to resolve any issues, discrepancies, or queries regarding customs clearance.

Regulatory Knowledge:
• Stay current with customs laws, trade regulations, tariff updates, and industry best practices to ensure continued compliance.
• Advise internal teams on regulatory changes or emerging trends in the customs and trade sector.

Risk Management & Compliance Monitoring:
• Monitor shipments for potential risk factors, including discrepancies or noncompliance, and escalate issues as necessary.
• Conduct periodic reviews of customs processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement.

Data Entry & Record-Keeping:
• Accurately input data related to customs declarations, tariffs, and product classification into internal systems.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all customs documentation for future reference and audits.

Qualifications:
Education:
• A degree in International Trade, Customs Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred.
• Relevant certifications in customs brokerage or compliance are advantageous (e.g., EACFFPC).
• Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a customs or trade compliance role.
• Experience in processing customs declarations and working with customs authorities.

Skills & Competencies:
• In-depth knowledge of customs regulations, tariff classification, and international trade procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle large volumes of complex data.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal teams, customers, and regulatory bodies.

• Proficiency in customs software and tools for filing declarations (e.g., CHIEF, AES, or other systems).

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.

Other Requirements:
• Knowledge of industry-specific regulations, such as hazardous materials handling, food safety, or pharmaceutical compliance, is a plus.
• A strong commitment to maintaining the integrity of customs processes and upholding regulatory compliance.
