Reports to: University Secretary
1. Purpose of the Job:
The Dean of Students (DOS) is a Senior position in the University. The DOS shall be responsible
for the welfare of the students; students’ guild affairs; games and sports, co-curricular activities and
social programmes; guidance and counselling; and general discipline of the students in the
University.
2. Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:
1. A Master’s degree in either Sociology, Counselling, Psychology, Education Planning and
Management, Human Resource Management, or related subjects, from a reputable university
or institution of higher learning.
2. Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Human Resource Management or Education.
3. At least ten (10) years working experience with students in an administrative position in a
university or higher institution of learning; five (5) of which should have been at senior
management level.
4. A mature and practicing Christian who subscribes to the University’s Core values and
Philosophy.
5. Have a demonstrable excellent track record of high ethical standards and professionalism.

7. Good interpersonal skills and highly sociable.
8. Be between 35-45 years of age at the time of application.
3. Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepare annual work plans and financial budgets for the Office of the Dean of Students and
direct the implementation of out-of-class students’ activities with professional organizations,
cultural, spiritual, and other community engagements.
2. Initiate, review and implement policies, guidelines and procedures to address student issues
and grievances in an impartial and timely manner.
3. Direct all matters pertaining to the students’ welfare including their health, meals and
accommodation; and organise monthly welfare committee meetings to discuss issues affecting
students.
4. Direct matters related to the operations of the student’s guild including induction and orientation
of new members; facilitating their meetings; and accrediting and guiding the activities of
student’s associations in line with policies and regulations of the University.
5. Work closely with student leaders to address student’s concerns and discipline.
6. Initiate, review and monitor the implementation of games and co-curricular activities aimed at
improving overall student experience, participation, and satisfaction and increasing University
visibility.
7. Handle student accommodation working closely with wardens, custodians, private hostel
owners and students to ensure the health and safety of the students.
8. Coordinate student events and meet with them regularly for mentorship, and offer to counsel,
guide and support the personal growth of the students.
9. Work hand in hand with the University Chaplain and Counsellors to inculcate the core values of
the University into the students; and provide students with quality engagement opportunities
that model these values as well as ethical leadership for their transformation.
10. Implement the student’s handbook and code of conduct.
11. Work closely with the Office of the Academic Registrar to support student internship, training,
and job placements, as well as, develop and implement a robust alumni relations program that
purposefully engages alumni to cultivate meaningful relationships that positively impact the
University community and build external relations.
12. Work closely with the HR Office in recruitment, orientation, performance, and development of
staff in the Dean of Student’s office.
13. Carry out any other responsibility assigned by the supervisor.
