General Summary
Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) (www.idi-makerere.com) is a not-for-profit organization, owned by Makerere University. Its mission is “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through Research and Capacity building”. Over the last 6 years, IDI has been running the Fleming Fund project, which supports government efforts to set-up systems for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance. The project seeks to fill the position of data analysts will the qualifications below.

Key Responsibilities
• Support data collection from the surveillance sites including Data Quality Assessments.

• Support standardization of the use of WHONET at surveillance sites, NCCs and One Health Coordinating Office

• Act as the point of contact for all data requests and ensure that users’ data needs are satisfied.
• Act as the point person for all data and information technology-related issues.

• Liaises with the rest of the team and any other relevant party to ensure timely preparation of reports according to the project work plan and Monitoring and Evaluation plan.

• Perform routine backups and ensure security of data captured into the project electronic databases.

• Perform analysis and interpretation of data as & when required for project requirements, particularly on a quarterly basis to support project reporting and engagement with policy stakeholders
• Support integration of human, animal, and water and environment sector data through DISIS to enable its visualization at the One Health platform

• Support documentation including development of knowledge management products

Person Specification
• Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Quantitative Economics, IT or a relevant field.
• At least 3 years’ progressive experience in data management and systems development.
• Knowledge of current information technologies.
• Experience in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Antimicrobial Use/Consumption (AMU/C) data management and information systems development.
• Attention to detail, especially regarding data accuracy.
• Team player and management skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Competence in electronic database packages e.g. Ms. Access, SQL.
• Good analytical skills and use of analysis packages e.g. MS Excel, R, STATA, WHONET etc.
• Good understanding of Ministry of Health/Fleming Fund reporting requirements, expectations and tools.
