Job Summary:
Rapid Rescue Health Care Uganda is seeking a Critical Care Nurse to provide advanced nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), and emergency settings. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring patients, administering life-saving interventions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care & Monitoring
- Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in ICU, HDU, and emergency units.
- Continuously monitor vital signs, oxygen levels, and patient responses to treatment.
- Assess and manage pain, sedation, and comfort for critically ill patients.
- Administer medications, fluids, and blood products as per doctor’s prescriptions.
2. Emergency & Life-Saving Procedures
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, cardiac arrests, and trauma cases.
- Operate and manage life-support equipment such as ventilators, defibrillators, and infusion pumps.
- Assist in emergency intubation, resuscitation, and other advanced procedures.
3. Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with doctors, anesthetists, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate effectively with patients' families, providing updates and emotional support.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions to improve patient care outcomes.
4. Infection Control & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to strict infection prevention and control guidelines in critical care settings.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Maintain a sterile and organized working environment.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate patient records, treatment charts, and nursing notes.
- Report any changes in a patient's condition to the healthcare team immediately.
- Assist in preparing incident reports, quality assurance audits, and compliance checks.
6. Education & Continuous Learning
- Participate in ongoing training and skill development in critical care nursing.
- Educate patients and families on post-critical care recovery and home care management.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in critical care and emergency medicine.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Specialization in Critical Care Nursing.
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Basic Life Support (BLS) is an added advantage.
- At least 2-5 years of experience in ICU, HDU, or Emergency Nursing.
- Registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC) with a valid practicing license.
- Strong assessment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication and teamwork abilities.
