Description:
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) - funded Feed the Future Uganda Institutional and Systems Strengthening (ISS) Activity (also herein referred to as the “Activity”), implemented by DT Global Ltd, aims to mitigate institutional governance, management, and market systems constraints to improve how system actors work together to achieve agriculture-led economic growth.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries is mandated to formulate, review, and implement national policies, plans, strategies, regulations, and standards along the value chain of crops, livestock, and fisheries. To achieve the above mandate, the Ministry has set six strategic objectives namely, increasing agricultural production and productivity; improving post-harvest handling and storage of agricultural products; increasing agro-processing and value addition; increasing market access and competitiveness of agricultural products in domestic and international markets; increasing the mobilization, access, and utilization of agricultural finance; and strengthening agriculture sector institutional capacities for agro-industrialization.
The Ministry’s interface and commitment is in developing and implementing of regulatory policies in agriculture, enforcement of compliance to regulatory policies, provision of infrastructure and machinery, and development and implementation of service delivery standards in the sector.
For the Ministry to realize its mandate and strategic direction, it will rely on competent human resources as the key driving factor. The Uganda Vision 2040 and NDP11I identify Human Capital Development as a key fundamental area that needs to be strengthened to accelerate the country's social and economic transformation.
