NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran has made significant investment in radiological services as part of a programme of improvement supporting the redesign of "front door" emergency services. The aim is to enhance local service infrastructure to deliver timely and integrated radiological support to clinical teams. Two Consultant Radiology posts are offered at University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr and successful applicants will be working across both sites.

The successful candidates will be encouraged to take on a Specialist Interest(s) which complements the existing department. Sub-speciality interest in Musculoskeletal Radiology, Urology, Chest and Nuclear Medicine will be welcome.

The imaging departments at both University Hospitals Crosshouse and Ayr are well equipped each having a 1.5T MR scanner, 128 slice CT’s, Ultrasound, Digital Fluoroscopy, Nuclear Medicine and Mammography. Both hospitals utilise the national PACS system along with Soliton RIS. Teleradiology is available for on-call and flexible working is encouraged. The directorate has been proactive in encouraging skill mix and developing extended radiographer roles.

There are excellent on-site educational and library facilities. The hospitals receive trainees from the West of Scotland Radiology Training Scheme. Ayrshire is one of the most scenic regions of Scotland with excellent recreational facilities first class transport links and offers excellent housing and schooling and serves a population of 375000. Services are delivered from linked Hospitals in Crosshouse, Ayr and Irvine (Ayrshire Central Hospital) within a single medical imaging directorate.

The successful applicant will join the existing complement of 22 Radiologists in Ayrshire. At present each hospital operates its own on-call rota for weekends whilst providing combined on-call service during weekdays. There is a well-established outsourcing overnight on-call to a nighthawk service.

The Terms and Conditions of Service are those determined by the new Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 and are offered on a 10 programmed activity basis. Applications from individuals who may wish to work on a part-time or job share basis will be considered. Extended day and flexible family friendly working patterns will be considered where feasible. Opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities subject to service requirements.

The successful applicant should possess the FRCR (or equivalent). Applicants must have Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice and must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a CCT or a CESR at the time of interview for the post.

Interested applicants are invited to visit the departments and/or discuss the posts further with Dr Sudhakar Unnam, Clinical Director for Radiology, Tel. 01563 826141, email sudhakar.unnam@aapct.scot.nhs.uk or Dr Suzanne MacKenzie, Associate Medical Director, Woman, Children and Diagnostic Services, email: Suzanne.MacKenzie@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Interviews are scheduled for the 30th July in the afternoon - 1pm onwards.
