These posts offer an exciting opportunity for ambitious and committed Consultants in Gastroenterology. The expansion of the existing Consultant workforce will allow us to develop new and innovative approaches in the delivery of patient care that meet an increasing demand for specialist Gastroenterology services. We are seeking to appoint motivated and enthusiastic colleagues to work with the team in NHS Ayrshire and Arran. These posts will provide a unique and exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of the service. Situated on the beautiful Clyde Coast, Ayrshire & Arran is great place to live and work. There is a wealth of beaches, golf courses, bustling market towns and stunning scenery to explore, yet University Hospital Crosshouse is still within 35 minutes’ drive from the heart of the city Glasgow.

The successful candidates will have the option of choosing to be based at University Hospital Crosshouse, University Hospital Ayr or a combination of both.

Our current team provides a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service supported by Gastroenterology Specialist Nurses, Endoscopy Nurses, and Specialty Doctors. We also work closely with our surgical colleagues across University Crosshouse and University Ayr hospitals. There are established teaching and research links with the University of Glasgow and Glasgow teaching hospitals. The duties of the post are biased towards the provision of specialist Gastroenterology services. The post also includes an ongoing commitment to the supervision of in-patient general medical patient with receiving duties within the purpose built Combined Assessment Unit.

There is an active programme of postgraduate education in which all doctors are invited and encouraged to participate. Appropriate time, support and development will be provided to allow the successful individuals to flourish and realise their professional and personal ambitions and to shape the future clinical service.

The terms and conditions of service are those determined by the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004. The posts are offered on a 10 programmed activity basis initially (including 2 SPAs), but opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities to be undertaken subject to service requirements and in accordance with national terms and conditions of service. Applications from individuals who may wish to work on a part-time, or job share basis will be considered.

The post holders will also provide ongoing leadership and training in the expansion of innovative training posts that are community facing which offer exciting opportunities for doctors within the GP training programme and Clinical Development Fellows to work at the interface between Acute, Community and Primary Care Services, within a multi-disciplinary team .

NHS Ayrshire and Arran have built a new and supportive development programme for new consultants which provides additional management training to those in their first Consultant post. There is also a strong focus on staff wellbeing within the Board.

Accredited in Gastroenterology, you will have the necessary training and expertise to provide a range expertise for older patients in Ayrshire to meet the needs of these new roles. Candidates must be fully registered with a Licence to Practice and must be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a CCT or CESR at the time of interview.
