The Advancing Contraceptive Options (ACO) portfolio operationalizes PATH’s commitment to increasing access to a range of contraceptive product and service-delivery platform options, all within a framework of informed choice and rights. This portfolio encompasses PATH’s work on the introduction of self-injection with DMPA SC (Sayana press) in humanitarian settings.

 

Uganda has scaled up DMPA SC and is now moving to scale up its use through self-injection approach. PATH is extending the self-injection with DMPA SC in human train settings through community-based approaches. The consultant will provide support to the team in implementing several activities up to August 2020 in three districts of Lamwo, Kiryandongo and Kyegerwa.

 

Consultant Role and Responsibilities

Consultant will support PATH’s ACO team in Uganda to conduct the following activities.

  • Support training of VHTs and health workers on self-injection with DMPA SC, and provide post training follow up including  detailed account for each health worker and VHT on skills to train women to self-inject, records and data managements and use of all tools used in service delivery and including onsite mentorship during related field
  • Provide refresher training where indicated and provide post training follow up in line with the project training program.
  • Resupply sites participating in the SI Best practice project with the necessary supplies e.g. Sayana Press, Job aid, Calendars, Salt, Condoms, Flipcharts etc.
  • Write and submit supervision reports and follow up on action points from the supervision visits.
  • The Consultant will work with ACO project director (Fiona Walugembe) or Project coordinator Edson Twesigye) and any other member of PATH Uganda team involved on the project.

 

Key deliverables:

  1. Conduct a training of 75 VHTs in two districts of Kiryandongo and Kyegerwa.
  2. Conduct refresher training of up to 50 VHTs in Lamwo district
  3. Conduct a one-off round of post training follow up/supportive supervision to all existing (~130) VHTs in Kiryandongo, Lamwo and Kyegerwa district.
  4. Provide detailed training report and post training reports according the PATH reporting standards. The reports should be provided 5 days after closure of the activity.
  5. Invoices – due monthly and within 5 days of the month.

 

Expected Timeline

Approximately 16 working days per month up to 36 days. The days can be spread between June 10th -August 31st depending on how work progress.

Required Experience

Ideal Candidate:

  • Trainer in Family planning including DMPA SC and self-injection.
  • Experience and familiar working in refugee settings and district Local governments.
  • Proficient in word, PowerPoint and excel computer packages.
