Job Title: Communications and Advocacy Lead, Volunteer position

Commitment: Part-time, 3 days per week with the flexibility to scale up during peak collaboration periods.
Remuneration: Monthly stipend to discuss
Reporting To: Chief Executive Officer

A non-profit organization that focuses on amplifying girls’ and women’s voices since 2022 through:
• Removing the barrier of menstrual injustice to girls’ education.
• Support entrepreneurship of young women and mothers.
• Create safe spaces for young girls and women to thrive and advance gender equality, a world free from gender based violence and poverty.

Job overview:
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the role of Communications and Advocacy Lead is pivotal in advancing our organisation’s vision and mission across various digital platforms. This position entails crafting impactful advocacy campaigns that amplify the voices of girls and women, with a particular focus on issues pertaining to menstrual justice and gender equality in Uganda. We seek an individual who is deeply aligned with our commitment to advancing education, entrepreneurship, and safe spaces for girls and women, and who is dedicated to expanding the reach of African female voices through social media. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to foster digital communities that extend beyond the virtual platforms, facilitating meaningful engagement in offline spaces as well.

Key Duties Responsibilities:
• Support the production of communication materials and content (e.g. briefing notes, images, videos, blogs,newsletter etc.) that meet Dwona Initiative’s Strategy.
• Coordinate efficiently with vendors (design and print houses, production houses etc.)
• Assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories, case studies, photo stories, and other advocacy/information materials for both web-based and traditional media, as appropriate.
• Be available for travel to the field sites for advocacy support, to collect case studies and undertake photography commissions and case studies.
• Absorb high volumes of complex, incomplete and often vague information and synthesise it into concise, accessible communications products that provide appropriate levels of detail and complexity for the audience.
• Social media: Develop and execute a social media strategy that aligns with and amplifies our vision and mission, emphasizing the importance of visibility and education of menstrual and gender justice . Create and curate high quality impactful content that reflects our commitment to removing the barrier of menstrual injustice to girls’ education, supporting entrepreneurship and creating safe spaces for young girls and women.
• Maintain an up-to-date documentation center for communication materials, including publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.
• Use analytics to monitor social media impact, adapt strategies to maximize reach, and drive our mission forward.
• Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and Programs team to disseminate a quarterly newsletter and a monthly blog that supports our vision and educates our audience.
• Conduct a robust stakeholder mapping and maintain an updated contact list of key targets in-country, including media and private sector.
• Promote a principled approach to advocacy, policy, and communications on Uganda among relevant internal stakeholders and ensure that external messaging is evidence-based and driven by field realities.
• In conjunction with all staff, closely monitor humanitarian policy debates and media pertaining to girls and women menstrual justice and ensuring that relevant information is analyzed and disseminated in a timely and effective manner.
• Represent Dwona Initiative in humanitarian forums regarding African girls and women’s voices, such as working groups, conferences, lobby meetings, and other events as requested.
• Respond to external inquiries on policy issues, including briefing policymakers and media.
• Engage our community by sharing educational and inspiring stories that foster agency in girls’ and women’s menstrual and gender justice and build us as a trusted source.

Requirements:
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Humanities, development Studies, Development Economics or related fields, with a passion for African girls’ and women’s voices through access to education, health and safe spaces.
• Ready to build experience in social media management, with expertise in content creation that aligns with education and health advocacy.
• Proficiency with design and analytics tools, and a strategic mindset for growing engagement in a purpose-driven organization.
• Exceptional storytelling ability, showcasing a deep understanding of the issues affecting girls and women in the African context.
• Independent and collaborative work ethic, has initiative and tenacity to drive projects and programs forward in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional advance planning and organizational skills. Ability to effectively prioritize and follow multiple activities and deadlines simultaneously with little to no supervision.
• Reliable, patient, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible to adapt to changing requirements.
