Biyinzika Poultry International Limited (BPIL) is seeking an exceptional Commercial Director to take the reins of our entire commercial function, spearheading the promotion and sales of all our products and propelling the BPIL brand to new heights. This is a critical leadership role that places you at the heart of our Executive Team, directly shaping our future.

Reporting & Supervision

  • Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (with a dotted line to the Commercial Director, East Africa)
  • Directly Supervises: National Sales Managers, Customer Services & Logistics Manager, Brand & Promotions Manager, Data & Insights Specialist

 Job Summary

The Commercial Director holds the ultimate responsibility for the promotion, sales, and aggressive growth of all of Biyinzika Poultry International Limited's (BPIL) products and brand equity. You will be the architect of our market success.

Key Responsibilities

As the Commercial Director, you will be empowered to drive, execute, and lead across these critical areas:

Strategic Growth & Market Dominance

  • Drive volume and sales growth in current markets of focus and orchestrate expansion into new markets.
  • Plan and execute an effective and efficient marketing campaign and Route to Market strategy to significantly grow our market share in both the Agri (Animal Feed and Poultry) and Consumer Goods (Dressed Chicken) sectors.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the comprehensive sales and marketing strategic plan.
  • Identify export opportunities and work towards achieving steady growth in regional markets.

Sales Performance & Financial Acumen

  • Lead, support, and oversee the Agri and Consumer goods sales team to ensure they achieve BPIL goals and objectives (hard and soft).
  • Compile sales volumes and sales price target for the various products, and monitor and drive sales throughout the year to attain the set target.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of finance to effectively manage budgets and optimise product margins.

Brand, Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Build up and provide direction to the marketing team to ensure our brands are leading the market.
  • Maintain excellent customer relations and market intelligence (both at consumer and competitor level).
  • Manage customer relations in the best way possible, ensuring quality service as well as building a comprehensive and detailed customer base.
  • Manage relations with relevant government ministries and departments whose policies and regulations impact our business.
  • Manage all social media channels, activities, etc.
  • Keep management and board well informed about the market trends, competitor activity, pricing performance of our products, opportunities, and threats.

Team Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Build strong sales teams and be a valued member of the Executive Leadership at BPIL.
  • Ensure that the sales team and sales support teams are knowledgeable about their products and markets, are fully motivated and energized, and are adequately trained.
  • Ensure commercial staff comply with SOPs.
  • Provide support to the Executive Team on Executive initiatives and issues.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned to you.

The Ideal Candidate: Person Specification

We are looking for a powerful mix of experience, intelligence, integrity, and drive.

Education & Training

  • A relevant degree in Sales and Marketing is required, with an MBA being a distinct added advantage.
  • Prior training in professional selling skills and in customer care is an added advantage.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 15+ years’ experience in a senior position with direct P&L responsibility in a company with over $15 million of annual sales.
  • Prior experience in the livestock sector a plus but not essential.
  • Leadership skills with experience of managing a large staff complement.
  • Flair for sales.
  • Collaborator with excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and with strong analytical skills.
  • Technology and Social Media savvy.
  • Demonstrated ability to share skills and knowledge with others.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
