Job Summary
Mildmay Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Instructor to join its academic team. The successful candidate will oversee the Nursing and Midwifery Skills Laboratory and instruct students in line with the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) curriculum. This includes classroom instruction, skills lab practicals, and clinical placement supervision.
The role is pivotal in nurturing competent, compassionate, and professional nurses and midwives, and contributes significantly to the development of Uganda’s healthcare workforce.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Teaching & Supervision
- Conduct theoretical and practical lessons in nursing and midwifery.
- Provide hands-on demonstrations in the skills lab.
- Supervise students during clinical placements in hospitals and health centers.
2. Skills Laboratory Management
- Maintain a well-equipped and functional skills laboratory.
- Ensure availability and proper use of learning aids and materials.
- Coordinate student laboratory schedules and assessments.
3. Student Assessment and Evaluation
- Design, administer, and mark assessments in accordance with MoES standards.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
4. Academic Excellence & Performance
- Inspire and guide students toward achieving high academic standards.
- Identify and support students with academic or clinical challenges.
5. Student Support & Professional Conduct
- Mentor and counsel students on academic and professional conduct.
- Uphold and enforce institutional codes of ethics and discipline.
6. Crisis Management and Student Welfare
- Support students during emergencies or academic-related stress.
- Liaise with administration on student welfare and safety.
7. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and evaluations.
- Prepare reports for internal use and external regulators as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery (Must be double trained in both disciplines).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing/Midwifery or Certificate in Clinical Instruction is an added advantage.
- At least 2 years of teaching experience in a recognized academic institution.
- Good understanding of MoH and MoES policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, instruct, and evaluate learners.
- Experience in managing e-learning systems or blended learning platforms is a plus.
