Job Summary:   The Child Protection Assistant will take direct implementation of child protection and safeguarding principles (Awareness, prevention, responding, and reporting) and interventions in FCA-supported schools. She or he will work closely with school structures including school administrations, learners, and PTA/SMC in fostering a safe learning environment and adherence to FCA’s safeguarding standards and policies.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement child protection and child safeguarding activities in the settlement.
  • Ensure child participation in schools by working with learners to identify and map out potential risks and develop measures to eliminate the risks
  • Conduct awareness sessions and empower the school-based child protection structure with information on child protection, children’s rights, and child safeguarding
  • Work with school structures and leadership in developing school-based safeguarding guidelines
  • In close collaboration with learners and focal child protection teachers, develop school-level safeguarding IEC materials to reinforce FCA’s culture and serve as a continual reminder of FCA’s commitment to safeguarding
  • Support school leadership to develop safeguarding guidelines to prevent safeguarding risks in schools
  • Conduct daily monitoring of the school using appropriate tools using a child protection/safeguarding lens.
  • Conduct feedback sessions and enhance information-sharing with learners on safeguarding issues, risk, prevention, and reporting mechanisms
  • Ensure timely identification, reporting, and responding to child safeguarding issues
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to prevent and respond to child protection issues in schools and strengthen referral mechanisms and case management processes.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanity courses, protection, education and law
  • At least 2 years of working experience in Child Protection or training in an INGO.
  • Experience in child protection/ safeguarding practice in a humanitarian setting
  • Experience in facilitating children’s activities
  • Knowledge of Child protection minimum standards
