Role Overview:
The Chief Commercial and Investments Officer is responsible for driving UNMC’s commercial strategy and investment initiatives. This role focuses on maximizing the value of Uganda’s mineral resources through strategic investments, partnerships, and market engagement, ensuring sustainable growth and profitability for the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a commercial strategy to enhance UNMC’s market position and revenue generation.
- Identify and evaluate investment opportunities in the mining sector, both locally and internationally.
- Lead negotiations for joint ventures, partnerships, and mineral agreements on behalf of the State.
- Oversee the management of UNMC’s commercial interests in mining ventures, ensuring optimal returns.
- Raise capital for the company through innovative financing mechanisms and investor engagement.
- Monitor market trends and provide insights to inform business decisions and investment strategies.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements in all commercial dealings.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government entities, investors, and international partners.
Qualifications and Experience:
- An Honours Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Mining, or a related field from a recognized university.
- Postgraduate training in investment appraisal, mineral resource development, or trading is an added advantage.
- At least 15 years of relevant experience in a commercial or investment role within the natural resources sector, with 10 years at a senior management level.
- Proven track record in raising capital, negotiating commercial agreements, and managing investments.
- Strong understanding of the global mineral market and investment landscape.

- The Uganda National Mining Company (UNMC) was established under the Mining and Minerals Act, 2022 (Act No.25 of 2022) and incorporated under the Companies Act 2012 (Act No.1 of 2012). UNMC is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda.
- The overall function of UNMC is to manage the commercial holding and participating interests of the State in the mining and mineral industry to ensure that the country obtains optimal value from its mineral resources.
