Proposal Management and Program Design

  • Proposal Development Process: Leads Pathfinder’s proposal development process, including responses to competitive bids for government, foundation, and corporate grants. Reviews and edits technical proposals. Develops management and staffing plans for project proposals. Ensures that cost proposals are in line with technical proposals and adhere to donor regulations and RFA guidelines.
  • Program Research and Design: Plays key role in program design. Conceptualizes and coordinates global program development activities.
  • Continually identifies and explores potential new donors and funding opportunities for both restricted and unrestricted grants.
  • Serves key resource on donor strategies and preferences, ensuring that proposals are high-quality and responsive.

Capacity Development, Planning and Relationship Management

  • Develops the learning agenda for business development capacity building, including internal debriefings and process improvement, and serves as a mentor to staff on proposal best practices
  • Supports broader capacity development activities around program design and proposal process management organization-wide
  • Operationalizes solicitation strategies for institutional donors to grow institutional support to underwrite global program development goals. Works closely with leadership and business units in the planning and conceptualization of program development activities, and conducts research, writing, and review of funding proposals for foundations and corporations.
  • Manage and maintain ongoing relationships with key donors and partners to secure critical partnerships and funding
  • Participate in external visibility efforts and key engagements on behalf of the organization

Business Development Administration

  • Partners with Programs, Grants & Contracts, and Finance to monitor the grant progress, both programmatic and financial, to ensure that donor expectations and requirements are met.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises staff. Identifies outside consultants, develops SOWs, and manages consultants. Leads efforts in securing staff retention and the utilization of quality business development standards.
  • Manages or participates on cross-functional project teams.
  • Serves as Acting Director when needed.

Minimum Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Non-Profit Management, Business, Communication, Marketing, or related field, or a combination of education and experience that yields the minimally required competencies
  • 10 year’s relevant work experience
  • 5 years’ work experience with an international health organization, preferably with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights.
  • Work Experience leading global staff and vendors and partners
  • Experience managing and writing proposals for US Agency for International Development (USAID), other US government agencies (i.e. CDC), private foundational donors, and/or non-US donors

Preferred Education and Work Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Non-Profit Management, Business, Communication, Marketing, or related field
  • Advanced knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights
  • Experience living or working in developing countries that aids in the understanding of program context, field realities, and technical needs
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other customer relationship management (CRM) systems and donor database
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Fluent and written and oral French, Arabic, or Portuguese

  • Research and Development: Proven ability to stay abreast of current issues, emerging funding trends, and research in SRHR.
  • Leadership and Management: Proven ability to lead, supervise and coach members of staff in different locations
  • Software Applications: Advanced knowledge of MS PowerPoint, Excel, Access. Mastery of knowledge of Adobe Acrobat.
  • Reporting: Proven ability to read and interpret data for reporting. Proven ability to generate and present standard reports.
