Next Media is the leading multimedia company in Uganda aspiring to become the most relevant media in Africa. Next Media has evolved from one television station to three television stations, web products, an online news portal, a radio station, and a media production agency.

 

Job Summary: We are looking for a skilled Business & Data Analyst with strong financial reporting expertise to join our media company. The ideal candidate will analyze business performance data, provide actionable insights, and support financial reporting processes to drive strategic decisions across the organization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including finance, marketing, and operations to help optimize revenue and operational efficiency.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide oversight of finance systems such as SAP, ensuring system integrity, data accuracy, and effective process integration.
  • Lead data governance and analytics efforts to maintain high data quality, compliance, and enable insightful reporting.
  • Support automation and digital initiatives, working closely with IT and finance teams to streamline financial reporting and operational workflows.
  • Analyse business and financial data to provide actionable insights and support decision-making.
  • Collaborate with finance, IT, and business units to gather requirements and translate them into analytical and technical solutions.
  • Conduct financial analysis including P&L review, revenue recognition, and cost control.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling activities.
  • Communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices related to finance systems, data governance, and automation
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret business and financial data to support management decision-making.
  • Handle financial reporting and analysis related to franchise operations and joint venture arrangements, ensuring compliance and accurate financial tracking.
  • Develop, maintain, and automate financial reports, dashboards, and KPIs related to media revenue streams, advertising, subscriptions, and operational costs.
  • Analyse trends and variances in financial performance and provide detailed commentary.
  • Work with business units to gather requirements and translate them into analytical solutions.
  • Perform market and competitor analysis relevant to the media industry.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling activities.
  • Support data-driven initiatives by designing and implementing data queries and visualizations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and external reporting standards.
  • Communicate findings and insights effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Analytics, Economics, Statistics, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in business analysis, data analysis, or financial reporting, preferably within media, advertising, or a related industry.
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, including P&L analysis, revenue recognition, and cost analysis.
  • Proficiency with data tools such as Excel (advanced), SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of media business models and revenue streams (advertising, subscriptions, syndication).
  • Experience with ERP, CRM, or financial systems is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
