About Organisation:
Farm Africa, founded in 1985, is an international non-governmental organization working in Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. We drive agricultural and environmental change to improve lives. Our strategy has three pillars: agricultural expertise, management and preservation of ecosystems, and the power of business to drive prosperity. We believe Africa has the power to feed itself and are helping make this happen by establishing and spreading the best farming and forestry techniques so that poor farmers and herders have more food to feed their families and to sell. We help smallholders manage their natural resources sustainably so that they can withstand climate change challenges and shocks and ensure their families have enough food in the future as well as now. Farm Africa works in partnership with communities, government, local and international organizations, and the private sector to innovate, learn and share best practices for maximum impact of our projects.
Purpose of the role: The purpose of the role is to provide technical capacity building of farmer organizations in Kenya and Uganda in the farmer organizations development incubation hub work funded by VI Agroforestry.
Our donor Vi Agroforestry have designed an incubation hub model for farmer organizations development, built on real practical experiences and learnings to provide relevant support to their early growth stages; enabling them to grow and provide the needed support to their members. As the Farmer organizations strive to increase efficiency and effectiveness, a need arises for strengthened governance and systems. For most grassroots organizations that bring farmers in their local communities together, they often do not have adequate capacity; even as they have the zeal and drive to support their members to adopt sustainable farming practices; improve their livelihoods and resilience to effects of climate change.
Farm Africa has therefore been contracted by VI agroforestry as technical partner organizations to spearhead the implementation of the farmer’s organizations incubation process.
